  • 70th Anniversary Edition Seats; Are seat covers needed?

So I am about to pick up my 70AE and read somewhere that another purchaser was warned by their sales person to be careful about wearing Jeans because of color bleeding issues. Is this a rumor or fact? I read a couple reviews of some seat covers with the flags logos that were less than stellar. Are there any good recommendations?

True! I would stay away from wearing any dark colored jeans or get seat covers.

What color are your seats? If sky cool gray there could be a problem with newer jeans. I've been wearing my well used jeans in my car with no issues. I should mention that I had an interior protection package applied at the dealership prior to delivery. But that just protects the leather from any staining, I suppose it could still get some transfer, but should clean off with the leather being protected. So far though, I see no transfer of anything I have worn on the seats, they are sky cool gray BTW.

I have yet to see high quality, good looking C8 seat covers. Anyone found them yet?

The caution as to wearing new unwashed jeans is one I would add to any color other than dark interior C8’s. While as noted staining is rare, it can happen on light colors. I too have my seats treated with a high quality seat sealant.

Also, be careful the seat covers themselves will not stain the leather!

When i looked for my C7 Z06 I also was not able to find high quality and reasonably priced seat covers. I have the Kalahari interior which early on was showing signs of blue jean dye transfer (even with well washed jeans) on the driver's side bolster. I thought about it and decided to simply get a very inexpensive ($25) tan cover from AutoZone. I used it when I was using the car as my daily driver and didn't care what it looked like. If I went to a show or out somewhere where I wanted the car to look good, I simply removed it, rolled it up and put it behind the seat. Over time I modified the way I got in and out of the car by putting my left hand on the bolster and sliding in butt first, so I have now minimized the dye transfer issue. It also cleaned up fairly well with a leather cleaner I now find I really don't need to use the cover any more. Or perhaps in my old age I am simply getting less concerned about it, instead just wiping it down a bit more frequently. --Bob

              Wash New Jeans
"Most jeans have a disclaimer tag indicating that the indigo dye process used to manufacture the jeans will cause the color to bleed and to wash them pronto. Wash your dark denim jeans inside out with cold water, as it's more gentle on fabric dyes and hot water will cause your jeans to shrink."

Great engagement on the question, thank you all. Follow up though; Since I did not purchase the Seat protection package, what has everyone else used to "Scotchgard" their seats? I assume there are superior products out there.

I've also got the 2023 AE and worry about the white seats, especially after noticing the "Sky Cool Gray seats" (more off-white IMO) in my 2020 picking up fabric dye, moreso from jeans. Since the seats are both heated and air-cooled, my detailer recommended I NOT scotchgard them or coat them with anything. Instead, he suggested I keep a watchful eye on them and clean them as needed.

What worries me is taking on an unexpected passenger who's wearing jeans, especially someone young who might "bounce-around" in the passenger seat. For that reason, I'm on the hunt to find a seat cover I can throw in my trunk and have "just in case" for a passenger.
