  • POLL: C8 Horsepower

Of course this poll is irrelevant in terms of what will be revealed in 18 days, but it might help us pass a little of the time away until we get a real, interesting C8 teaser video, a major leak of some sort, or get real news on 7.18.19.

What do you think the horsepower will be for the 2020 LT2 powered ME Corvette?

I was thinking that without driveline losses since we do not have one in the ME, especially over the years driveline losses being estimated at up to 20% but more recently in the 12-17% range, it the LT2 were to develop 500 HP exactly, and if the driveline itself contributed to 3% net loss, that would effectively mean +15 more HP functionally at the rear wheels. Or is my thinking flawed?

I’m really hoping for ATLEAST 530 HP. , Actually am pretty confident too. Obviously the various Challengers, Mustangs are not in the same category as the C8 ( or any vette ) , but I think it’d be pretty disappointing if the C8 debuted with 500 ( or less HP. ), Just my $.02

My guess is 525hp. I think when all 3 versions are released the Z06 will have just over 700 & the ZORA will be around 1000.

It has long been my belief that GM wants to make a very big splash when this car is introduced. I am expecting the base car to have in excess of 535 HP. I'm also expecting the second year, higher horse variant (Z06?,) to be a twin turbo with close to 800 horsepower. We shall see.

500 sounds about right for a base model

I said 505 just not to be an even number.

I would say 508, 518 or 580 to get the 8in there but don’t think the 580 will happen and 508 and 518 would just be contrived

C8 was tested with the 911Turbo S. Was probably designed to equal 911 Turbo S performance which has 550+HP. So C8 has at least 535+ HP.

Small point, drive line loss includes transaxle bearings, drop gears, drive gears, ring and pinion gear, transmission bearing preload, oil viscosity, half shaft CV,’s wheel bearings, brake pad drag., front of engine drives to water pump, HVAC compressor. But yes, no driveshaft.

Ill suggest 500 hp which allows gm to up the hp in the third year to rejuvenate sales in the third year for the standard model.

                        Just a guess though...

I'm assuming that the base will be a varient of the LT1, and the Z06 will be the 550 ish HP DOHC engine, so I'm going with 490 or less.

If I'm wrong and the Z06 comes with the TT DOHC engine, which I doubt, and the base comes with the DOHC then I'd say 535-550

                            BUT i think it'll go...

base pushrod V8 (for low base price)

                            Z06 DOHC

                            ZR1 TT DOHC

ZORA TT DOHC and electric in front

The current Z06 makes 650 horsepower. Why would they make the C8 Z06 with 100 less horsepower? Won't happen. Never happened in previous generations. I will respectfully disagree.
