Don’t remember seeing anything and search didn’t bring up anything so my question is has anyone had a problem with the fuel door and is there any way to open if it doesn’t open automatically.

This was a major issue for relatively small number for the C7 generation. It has not been for the C8. I do not personally remember even one having it nor my research of a few minutes ago encounter one person reporting it.

Yet due to the C7 issues for some, we have a thread on this: https://www.midenginecorvetteforum.c...king-fuel-door

GM engineers didn’t plan for the unfortunate reality that we have to lock our cars while we’re filling up. I always forget to open the gas door before I lock the car…

It should be part of the passive lock and unlock system. Jesus, Chevy.

It is… but when you manually lock the doors at the gas pump, it locks the gas door too. And last time I checked, Jesus doesn’t work for Chevy 🤣

If you buy gas in St Louis, you are advised not to do that…

Like John, I recall some posts about this problem on the C7, but haven't heard of any on the C8. On the C7 you could, IIRC, remove some fasteners from the fender liner and then reach in and up and pull the lock mechanism out of the way. No idea if that will work on a C8.

Some people, in fear that the problem would occur, put a plastic plug in the hole in the filler door to prevent the plunger from engaging, or cut out the back part of the hole, or disconnect the wires from the stepper motor that acted on the plunger. All, of course, meant that your gas door never locked.

I have passive locking enabled but I just open the fuel door before the car locks. But I have to remember to disable the motion sensor while my wife is in the car. You'll only forget to do that once...

Not everybody! There's one guy in our club who infamous for leaving the alarm armed while his wife is sitting in the car. When we hear a car alarm, someone always shouts out: "Is that <name>?"

Plasyboy, I'm going to presume the car is not locked, and tell you that I have not had this issue since owning the car. If you have passive locking enabled, it could be that, although if you haven't walked away from the car far enough to engage the passive lock then, it should just open with a push on the trailing edge of the gas door. Check your settings and make sure the passive lock is not selected, other than that, it may take a trip to the dealer to figure out why it won't open.
