I did not post this in our “ME Facts” thread because little in this thread about new year is yet a fact, just “educated speculation.” However, it is based on more than fantasy.
In December, 2016 Keith Cornett (“CorvetteBlogger”), wrote a great article about the first beams of the new $435M BGA paint shop being set. In it, he quoted Chuck Valentini, Body Shop Manager, that the new paint shop can do 12 colors.
At the BASH two months ago, I separately, 1-to-1 asked both Kai Spande and Chuck, “so is it true the new paint shop can paint twelve colors, and will we see that increase next year?” Kai ducked both (not that I blame him), and later when I talked to Chuck, he confirmed that “we now have the capability of doing twelve colors, but as to when, I can not comment.”
So here is my hope, and I think it would be GM marketing genius, so maybe???
But first, we know that GM replaces two existing colors with two new ones most years. So which two will go from the 2019 ten colors? Typically GM chooses to “abandon” the two least sold colors from the previous full year. However, I have not yet seen that information for 2019. Has anyone please?
Thankfully for us “yellow lovers,” as long as Doug Fehan is the Corvette Team Manager, he smartly insists on his race cars being yellow for two reasons, i.e., “it is safest color for my drivers to be seen by others and lowers the chances of us being hit;” and “whether on TV or at a race as a spectator, you can see yellow from farthest away, for it the most noticeable color.” Adding one time, “best color for our car’s sponsors too.”
So even if we get two or maybe even two colors replaced from 2019 to 2020, what if GM were to debut additional colors # 11 and # 12 for 2020 — and only for that first year allow those two additional colors to be on the ME?
