  • Europeans are Serious: C8 will Need 900 HP to Play Outside

The European car companies are deadly serious about muscle cars. The C8 will need a big bag of marbles to go outside in its neighborhood and play with the big boys. Yes muscle cars. Maybe an American concept, the muscle car is taken to a new level overseas. The EuroMuscle Cars are high tech and high performance. The Europeans intend to own the muscles.

    Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe Gets the Brabus 800 Treatment

Excluding the Formula 1-inspired One hypercar, the GT 63 S 4-Door Coupe is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG production car. No fewer than 639 PS (630 horsepower) and 900 Nm (665 pound-feet) of torque are cranked out by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, and the three-pointed star has even bigger ambitions with the 73 series.

Until the hybridized model comes to light, Brabus decided to work its magic on the M177 with an ECU remapping and larger turbochargers. The Bottrop-based tuner thus managed to bring the output up to 800 PS (789 horsepower) and 1,000 Nm (738 pound-feet), channeled to all four wheels by 4Matic+ rear-biased AWD and the MCT multi-clutch transmission.

Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) comes in 2.9 seconds, and VMAX is rated at 315 km/h (196 mph). Brabus highlights the top speed is electronically limited but doesn’t give a reason for the presence of these electronic nannies. It’s likely the 21- and 22-inch tires wouldn’t cope with the heat and load of that sort of velocity, but nevertheless, what an achievement!

Bringing the go-faster theme one step beyond, the Platinum Edition Monoblock Z ten-spoke wheels complement the optimized aerodynamic elements made from carbon fiber. Brabus went forward with naked carbon fiber, providing a striking appearance from every single angle.

At the rear, no fewer than four Brabus tailpipes complement the sports exhaust system and aerodynamic diffuser with titanium embellishers finished in black to match the car’s paintwork. The forged wheels are wrapped in 275/35 tires up front and 332/25 tires at the rear, rated ZR to signify the GT 4-Door Coupe is capable of more than 240 km/h (150 mph).

Modifications also include the Brabus Airmatic Sport, a plug-and-play module that lowers the air suspension by about 25 millimeters. This piece of technology also features two drive modes, namely Comfort and Sport. Last, but certainly not least, opening the hood reveals a lot of carbon fiber, a little red, and Brabus branding on the engine’s cover.

Don't see any connection to the C8. "Outside"?

The Brabus 800 is a special and powerful beast of a machine, but IMO it and the two seater upcoming, entry C8 do not even play in the same playground. Doubt buyers would ever cross shop it.

John, I think you made an astute point. Additionally, a fair comparison would be the Brabus benchmarked with a tuner interpretation of the C8

Whoa. 800hp with an AWD drivetrain to match. The Cadillac V series should compete with it but GM have so far avoided development of an AWD system capable of serious torque.

There's also the hybrid Ferrari SF90 Stradale with about 1000 hp. Basically, Ferrari made a C8 ZR1, but it's a lot easier to do when price is no object. GM has to wait for battery/motor costs to drop sufficiently and they have to validate it to be a 150,000 mile car.

And every pump jockey with a Supra or GTR or modded out Civic will be wanting to race us at each stoplight...

I don't know. With its twin turbo charged 3.6 and AWD, my 4,200 lb XTSvsport seems to have a lot of torque.

I had quite the opposite when I owned my GT-R. Every Camaro, Mustang, and Corvette wanted to race me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You shouldn't lump all owners of something into one group Less all Corvette owners are khaki shorts, socks and sandals, who only drive their Corvette to the car show once a year on a 78 degree day with 0% chance of rain with only 2,000 miles because they think their base C6 will be a collector car one day.

Touche. I'm so focused on the small sporty Cadillacs that I forgot about the big honkin' cruisers.

We just place all those who pull next to us, hit their throttle to try and goat us into be dumb, place them on IGNORE!

As much as we have seen that, multiply it by ten. Starting early next year, we will multiply by 100 those who will pull, almost “park themselves” off of our rear quarters, then move to next of us, have their neck-twisting/camera taking experiences. We will just smile and wave, but insuring they are not inadvertently drifting over into our lane as they become transfixed with out great our C8’s look.

To your point John about those who pull up and goat you I can't tell how much fun it was when people did that to me in my Trans AM and I raised up my police badge and waved. The looks on their faces was priceless.

If any of these europeans have to have more than 500 hp..god bless them and yes the higer performance corvette models will offer more than 900 hp stock with a full warranty...

modded cars are nonsense even with fancy tuner names because those cars tend to break ....

wait till teslas 200 or 259 grand sports car that does zero to sixty in under 2 seconds launches....these eurotrash tuner cars will be sucking a lot of wind...

i dont care as Im not spemding 200 grand on any car...

thats a ridiculous amount of money on a car...

good luck to the europeans as they ward off the hordes of those that have not...

they need 900 hp to get away from the people that are rioting in the streets because of paris accord...with its carbon tax that is nonsense

no politics allowed so good luck to those europeans who say 900 hp to play
