C8 Rear Hood Barely Opening

I have a 2020 C8 Z-51, and while a great car, I have an annoyance with the rear hood barely pops open when using the key or the rear release button. My dealer has claimed others they have seen are the same, but this is rough when I have to open the hood with almost using my fingernails to get under a corner. My C7s popped open about 2" and I think my C8 did until recently.

My dealer's solution, put tension on it by partially unscrewing the rubber bump stops on the corners and side. I don't think much of that "solution." I did search the forum for this, but I didn't see anything applicable.

Any thoughts or advice?

Do you possibly have a sticking gasket. Give it a good coat of 303 Aerospace Protectant to be sure gasket is releasing from the trunk “hood.”

This isn't what my 2020 C8 trunk did. There was a good 3/4" gap upon opening it (never as much as 2"), so I never had to risk my fingernails to open it further. If the service manager of your dealership or their "C8 specialized tech", made that comment to you, you should consider finding a new dealership that's better informed about the C8. I always worry with these stories: if the dealership gives wrong info on something this simple, what else doesn't it know??

The C8 has been out for several years now. So we're beyond the point where dealership service techs should be learning the basics.

Having said that, your Forum description doesn't tell me where you're from. Perhaps (?) you're in a small town and dealing with a small dealership that gets very few Corvette allocations and doesn't have anyone really qualified to deal with Corvettes/C8's. I'm in a City of about a million people and it has about 16 Chev/GM dealerships but I'd only trust 3 of them to do proper work on my C8 since they're the ones who deal more with Corvettes/performance vehicles. Consider asking your dealership how many Corvettes they've been selling/servicing over the years and whether they have a really good Corvette technician(s). If you don't get the right answers, once again I'd find someone else better able to help you. You may have to drive a bit to get there, but it'll be worth the drive to have piece of mind and know you're getting good advice/service. Good luck!

My 2020 pops up ⅝” which is plenty to get a few fingers under.

And adjusting the two rubber bump stops to alter the tension is a reasonable solution that has been suggested previously on the forum. I don’t see a problem with giving it a try.

My 2021 was doing the same thing.Just unscrewed the rubber bumpers a few turns and pops up about 3/4 of a inch which is now plenty to lift it.Thanks everyone for that fix info
