They will release the various performance versions during different model years and not all in the first year. It will be similar to what we've seen in the C6 and C7 generations.
Sorry. If GM released a Z06 in year one, I would only be buying one C8 instead of the two I am now planning on. Ten of thousands will repeat this double-dipping process with the models coming out sequentially., with the net of GM selling many more C8’s overall.
GM will do the same gradual rolling out of “higher” models as does Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche, McLaren — and as it has done for several decades.
Sorry but waiting for many is the negative consequence of this progressive roll out.
There is a second major reason that OEM’s do this, and that they scurry to bring out the first of a new generation, then work on next developments next. The Z06’s motor is not now done as one example. It still has a way to go before it is declared “production approved.” Might active aero and other Z06+ developments also still be in the development process? I believe so.
2023 Z06: Hypersonic Gray HTC, two tone blue interior, CCB’s, 3LZ, E60, and with every visible carbon fiber option order-able including wheels. Lifetime, annual contributors, and 25 year members of National Corvette Museum. Home is the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Thanks John,
I thought there probably wasn’t going to be a Z06 year one but hoped for a GS. Thanks for confirming,

We believe that the Z06’s motor would be a DOHC, 32V, twin stage TT. While rumors abound as to its power level, one guess is as good as another at this time. Might be 5.5L, but even that is far from confirmed. Some think 4.2L. ???

John, is that similar to Cadillac Blackwing twin-turbo V8?
Another good question. I believe so, but minus is “Hot Vee” set up, but with other enhancements. Again, we lack any definitive info, but GM did not spend hundreds of millions developing a 32V, DOHC, TT motor for limited usage for Cadillacs cars. We see rumors that it is going into the Escalade and the Yukon, but IMO also into the Z06.
Does anyone have access to the IHS Markit Engine Forecast document (a version later than the 2017 one we earlier saw) please?

Exactly! I thought the comment made by Cadillac president ("Over my dead body") was out of place and had no representation of GM as a whole.

That response was strategic and on purpose. The Caddy Prez already knows what engine is going into the C8 as they have been the performance R&D arm of GM for a very long time. The Blackwing "hot vee" engine was developed for a specific Cadillac but the base engine itself will most likely be what we see showing up in the C8 minus the "hot vee" setup. CTS-V's, Camaro's and Vette's have been sharing the same drivetrain for almost a decade now all developed by Cadillac. Don't see that changing since its a tremendous cost savings for GM.
What if the original "base" launch date was January 2019; what if the design problems that postponed the reveal were real; what if the release of the Z06 was originally scheduled for early 2020 and now the base and the Z06 overlap.
