  • POLL: When Would The First ME Orders Be Accepted By GM

Specifically, when would be the first consensus when GM would accepts ME orders, e.g., their actually allowing some during that six day period to go to “official order acceptance” status 2000 or above?

For those who are wanting a review of the different GM status codes:

When Would The First ME Orders Be Accepted By GM

Don't know but I figure you gotta be near the top of the list and will let us know when yours is accepted.

Will gladly, and excitedly post it. I expect we will get a 2-4 weeks heads up by GM, an official notice that “the first orders will go to a consensus on “x” date.”

When do you think actual delivery dates will be? Summer of 2020?

Way before that. I am guessing mine will be made the first week and when asked by a friend yesterday when I thought I might get ours, I replied Valentine’s Day. However, I live on the West Coast so roughly a four week train ride to slow its deliver down. I expect others on the east coast, those within with a one or two day Jack Cooper Transporter ride to their dealers, being received in mid to late January.

Again however, as per previous, my best guess. A little birdie did chirp to me however, his noting, “re-read to what GM Authority posted.” They had noted a while back that production was starting in December. Couple that however with the expected four week within BGA Quality Control Hold, that’s what leading me to earliest customer deliveries around the middle or end of January.

July 18th is the reveal...then three months later pricing.....which brings us in around sept /oct...production begins in december....

ate january and early february deliveries begin...

first month 1000, then ramp up to 3000 a month ...until july for second model year production to begin...

24000 total first year production...2020 model year...

im guessing about one third of the production run is spoken for already..or in this case about 8k units...

if we get on an reservation list with a deposit this week...delivery by april sound about right?

Any of this sound about right?

All depends on your dealer’s allocation and the demand rate. While the biggest dealers will get 50+ per month, twice that for Kerbeck, my local local dealer who sells just a handful a year, it fervently is hoping he gets a handful of C8’s in year one. Let us remember that during the first year of the C7, demand was so great that even with the factory working 55 hours per week, they could not meet all sold orders (1,150 sold but unbuilt orders were carried over to 2015) — and that was when the 2014 production rate was 17.2 units/hour.

However, with their now going to two shifts, yet conversely with their now reduced assembly line rate of just 11.6 units/hour, that would equate to about a little more for the first 12 months of production than the first year of the SR.

Of course, we do not know the level of demand. What if GM receives 50,000 actual customer orders?

And we do not know if the two shifts would be working 8 or 10 hour days, and/or whether they would be working on Saturdays?

Sorry, but too many variables to answer your question JB.

Great insights John...thank you so very much....

if the production rate goes from 17 units per hour to 11 does that mean gm is anticipating a third less annual production under single shift operation?

glad they are going to two shifts for the first year at the very least...

i hate not to order from my local dealership that I use for service (they are so wonderful and I consider them friemds) yet it is tempting to order from one of the forum supporting vendors.

It was reduced from 17.2 to 11.6 units per hour as a result of the massive plant re-do and job reports done in the fall of 2017. GM is absolutely not anticipating less annual demand nor production. As to the time period for the second shift, GM had not said that it would end after one year, but as we all know, each business gets to adjust its production rates based on demand.

Thanks for the info. The reason I ask is tomorrow (Friday) I’m going to my dealer to give him my deposit. I’m in Canada and this is the biggest Corvette dealer here. He told me with the C7 they got 38 allocations and they have deposits on about 24 right now so I should be in the first run.
But... I don’t wanna take delivery in January or February because we’ll be in full blown winter then with snow and below freezing temps. Last thing I wanna do is drive this thing home from my dealer (about a 1 hour drive) in the middle of winter.

EXCITING day for your tomorrow. Congrats!

Is Canada still yearly subject to “Corvette delivery winter hibernation,” for I remember that as of a few years ago, that GM would not even ship Corvettes your way during the winter months? Or has that changed?

Thanks! Yes I'm excited about It. I'm going with a spyder/spider (i'm calling it a spyder cause if those renders are right... its a spyder)! What are you going with? I didn't know about the "winter hibernation." I will find out more info tomorrow when I go in. But I would be happy with an April delivery that way the snow will "hopefully" be gone!

Look at it this way. If you order from your local dealer and they cannot get you a car, then

                            a- they lose a sale

                            b= you have no car

c- They get no service business on the car.

On the other hand, if you buy the car from one of the big sponsoring dealers,

                            b- you have a car

c- they get to service it.

AS they say, two out of three ain't bad.

This is why I'm not buying from my local dealer (which is 15 minutes away from my house). They basically get a few cars in their allocation and there is no guarantee I will get one. So I went to the biggest corvette dealer where they got 38 C7s and are expecting that if not more C8s.
But, I will take it to my local dealer for service because I don't wanna drive one hour per direction to get there and back home. The big dealer gets the sale but my local dealer will get the service.
