Chevrolet to Kick Off C8 Corvette Z06 Dealer’s Tour in 2022

    By Keith Cornett : Dec 6, 2021

One of the cooler marketing plans that Chevy instituted with the arrival of the new mid-engine Corvette in 2019 was the C8 Corvette Dealers Tour. Dealers could host a one or two-day event with the new C8 Corvette on display, and it also included a Corvette specialist to present the car as well as a bunch of displays showing off the various colors, options, seats, and wheels that the Corvette could be ordered with.

Some dealers had a huge turn-out with thousands of people coming to check out the new mid-engine Corvette, and we know that many enthusiasts would go to their local dealers to see the all-new Z06 as well.

We had heard some rumblings that the Chevrolet would be headed back out on tour again with Z06, and today we have confirmation by a Chevrolet representative who said the Z06 Dealers Tour will be offered to dealers beginning in 2022.
Corvette enthusiasts visit MacMulkin to see the C8 Corvette Stingray

We’ve asked some of our dealer friends if they plan on hosting the Z06 tour and so far I have no confirmations yet. I did see a post on the Corvette Forum which started our quest on this subject and a user named “tome” said that Connell Chevrolet in Costa Rica, CA is planning a two-day event for April 4th and 5th.
For those of you interested in the Z06, we suggest you ask your dealer if they are scheduling the Z06 Dealer Tour. If you hear of any dealers hosting the Z06 Tour, let us know!

Probably a tautology for this - Chicago Auto Show 2022 is Feb 12-21. So, I would expect a Z06 display from Chevy, and then probably one "top-Corvette" dealer visit in the area. (I don't want to name that dealer's name due to my past experience.)

I too would expect the Z06 at the Chicago Auto Show. As to timing however, it is possible that the dealer tour does not start that early so perhaps in conjunction with that event?

At least you and all other members in the Chicago area will be able to see one in person in the now too distant future at the Show.

Hey John - can you please use your considerable charm to influence your GM contacts to send one here? GM's life-long Aussie/Kiwi fans will be forever indebted. Even a LHD one is OK😁

If you are counting on my charm, you just lost out on ever a 1% chance. The problem is blunting that GM right now only have four Z06 show vehicles. When might they add a few more to go on the dealer circuit??

I hope they are saving one for the Portland Auto Show. Barring that I'm always up for another road trip to Pasco, WA.

I suspect it will be the same as the Stingray tour, quite expensive for the dealership to host a Z06. The numbers being thrown around back then were something like $15,000 for 1 day and $25,000 for 2 days, IIRC. That is why it was hit or miss whether a dealer had one on the tour, only those willing to fork over the money got to show one. I saw a Stingray late in their tour schedule in Lampasas, Texas, population 7291. The next closest was one in Austin that was invitation only and one in Grapevine (DFW) that had so many people that it was a goat rope. No tour cars “locally” at all. I was happy that I was able to see one and appreciated the dealer going to the effort to get one, unfortunately they didn’t have any allocations. Which is why a lot of dealers didn’t bother to pay for a tour car. Why spend the money to show the car when you already have more people on your reservation list then you will ever get allocations for? Just doesn’t make financial sense when their is so much demand.

Auto shows might be the best way to see one. Hopefully GM will announce which shows will have a Z06 on display.

I agree 16 falcon. I know it will be expensive for a dealership and one told me when I inquired yesterday that as they are sold out and not taking any more Z06 orders, they have decided to not do a display event this time.

The problem with auto shows, and we know the Z06 will be at most if not all of the biggest ones, is that there are only four Z06 shows cars (same number as show car Stingrays in year one), and GM only allows a show car to appear at a show so quite a few shows will not get one — at least not in early 2022.

At dealer display events most though not all, allow folks to sit in the car, though as sitting in a Z06 is identical to sitting in a Stingray so candidly will that be a big deal unless you want a buddy to take a picture of you in the driver’s seat? And one gets the advantage at a dealer tour of asking the GM Z06 Specialist your specific questions.

If there is one in the Pacific Northwest, I will again organize a MECF and friends visit there — already reached out to the one dealer that had a display tour for the SR in Feb, 2020. ROAD TRIP!

As soon as I hear back from McCurley Integrity Chevrolet in Pasco, WA I would post up here.

I agree. With the Stingray tour, most of us had never even seen a C8 in person. I actually had a layover in Detroit and was able to see the C1 through C8 display at GM headquarters, but it was “look” only. The opportunity to actually sit in the car during the dealer tour was a real treat and made purchasing a $60,000-$100,000 car, without a test drive, easier. I suspect that most Z06 buyers will have had an opportunity to at least sit in a Stingray, if not drive one. Many will already own a Stingray. I think seeing a Z06 at an auto show will be enough for most Z06 buyers to cement their decision and fuel their anticipation.

We heard in the Aaron Link interview yesterday that 100% of Canadian Z06 sales are sold out for 4 years. [Source; Eastern Ontario’s President John Price who is super connected with GM Canada]

Exactly why one dealer said to me when I contacted him yesterday and asked if he will be involved in this, “no thanks on purchasing the Z06 display tour — not unless you can LOL get me more Z06 allocations.” We laughed together for fat chance of that…

I totally understand this discussion, but I hate to think I'm going to drop almost $100K on a car I haven't even seen!!! GULP! Yes, I have a C8, so I know much of what I'm getting. And i never drove a C8 before I bought mine, so I'm not going THAT far! :-)

Just to confirm, my local dealer, Connell Chevrolet, sent me a copy of their confirming email regards the Z06 tour on April 4/5. I'm actually surprised they signed up since that have to pay for it and their allocations are spoken for at least 2 years.
