  • C8’s Z51 Spoiler Looks Lots Like C7’s Winged Spoiler

The more I look at it it, at both massive amount of C8 spy pictures and at C7’s which have the LPO (dealer installed) option “Body Colored Wing Spoiler” (code SB3), which GM certified for the C7 Z51, the more I believe that we well could be seeing a slightly modified version of SB3 as the standard C8 Z51 spoiler.

Thanks to Motor1 for the granting us permission to use their C8 pictures below!

First, looking backwards to the wing spoiler within the GM Fleet Order Guide, then on C7’s:

Looking at some already seen C8 IVERs pictures.

GM has two of the most advanced automotive wind tunnel facilities in the world. They also have extensive computer aero analysis systems. With the C8 having a longer rear deck than the C7, the C8’s winged spoiler will of course be a little modified to reflect different air flow characteristics.

C7 and C8 Exterior Design Manager, Kirk Bennion, personally spends hundreds of hours within the wind tunnels to design new Corvettes (per Tadge Juechter, Kirk spend over 100 hours on just the ZR1 aero components within the tunnels), and with the C8’s much longer rear deck, the C8’s winged spoiler is going to have to at least some some variation from the C7’s winged spoiler. However, looking at the two, and admiring the camo cladding fake extra-thickness of GM’s “Master of Disguise” team in hiding actual Corvette features in plain site, I am thinking the C8’s rear spoiler would very closely look like the C7’s SB3 option pictured above, i.e., I can picture the C7’s winged spoiler instead that thickly padded C8 mule’s spoiler.

No offense intended on the c7 owners yet the spy photos of the c8 rear spoiler have to or should I say hopefully will duplicate the downforce of an active rear spoiler and corvette stylists just didnt want to let the cat out of the bag so to speak so gm just cobbled up the c8 monstroscity we see in spy shots...

i would work very hard to find a duckbill like aftermarket replacement if that hideous rear spoiler comes as mandatory on a z51 c8...

gm shoukd just offer a no charge rear spoiler delete option on the c8 fe4 z51 ...

i still think this is a way for gm to hide the fact the real z51 spoiler is an active aero device for prodiction.

i could more easily live with two holes where the attachment points are for that horrible c8 winged thing...

id bet there is camo on the side rear scoops so its not too. Far a stretch to say gm created this thing on the back of the c8 so we have no idea whats coming.

i like how porsche just showed the 992 in all its glory last year for a 2020 calendar year delivery to begin. Gm would do well to try the same. This is getting ridiculous already...

I highly doubt we are going to see an active spoiler until the Z06 C8.

Hehehe ok well we can hope its not this monster on the standard z51 corvette...

check the option listed a few days ago....i am sure Im mistaken i thought there was an option for active aero on the list..

        thamks for clearing that up..

still gm could be showing this ugly rear spoiler to throw us all off target...

that thing looks hideous...(on the c8 mule anyway)

What is going on in the middle of the rear spoiler ? Does it have an infection? Is that sack in the middle where new c8 s spout out of?

          ***?

Just more camo on this version — but less however than on this morning’s picture. Again, I think the camo masters are just covering it up and playing with us — knowing we on forums are microscopically zeroing in on every morsel we can find.

Would surprise me if they have a bulletin board in their workshop and place re-prints of some of our posts, or read them out at staff meetings and laugh.

That would be cool if they did have good laughs...they need it because corvette enthusiasts are a very selective bunch....especially when it comes to performance and styling.

the camaro ss spoiler might be better aerodynamically on the sixth gen camaro versus the fifth gen camaro but unit sales of the sixthgen have suffered dramatically..partly beciase of that 1994 toyota camry type rear wing on the camaro...(aero numbers are not so important to bypass good taste)

the devils in the details sometimes ...so I hope the gm engineers and stylists are having a real good laugh...

ill be laughing right along with them.

JB ... you and I are on the same page with our current thoughts. I like the C7 blade on the Z51. The C7 wing is ok, but not my first choice. I too hope the engineers are laughing at our concerns, but you are correct, we are a persnickety bunch

C8 “wing spoiler,” at least the C7 version of what many of us think looks near identical to what we are now seeing on the C8 Stingray Z51 model. Here is the C7’s LPO option SB3 from another viewpoint:

But at least the C7 version doesn’t have the sag in the center like hanging link sausage. It won’t be a deal breaker for me either but, it will be among the very first things replaced by the aftermarket.🤔
