  • C8 Starts Production In December?

Thanks To Wow Factor for this very interesting item. Thanks to Nice Ride initially sharing it on Corvetteforum. As you can see, NiceRide says he works for a supplier. Is this accurate information? Leaving that to each of you to decide...

Very interesting news, but before any of us treats this as the gospel, let us remember that we learned from that other forum such “presented as truths” as:

    * C8 starts at $169,000;

    * Confirmed that the C8 will be revealed at last month’s NAIAS.

    * No DCT’s for the C8 because they do not work.

So while we hope that NiceRide has shared some inside baseball information, this is so far from a confirmation in my book. Nevertheless, we always appreciate something additional/new to cogitate on while we wait.

BTW, SOP does stand for start of production.

What do you think about this latest rumor?

none of us know including this source on the interweb...

but always fun to garner these rumors for discussion

I definitely take anything from there with a grain of salt. But it does lineup to a degree. When we’re you thinking SOP would be, earlier?

Production in December meshes OK with a reveal at the Museum during the Corvette Caravan. I'm hoping for that, because i'm going.

Good points JB. We have few other posts from this source, but ??? As always, we are still missing GM confirmation that the next Corvette will be a mid engine C8... So does one take Nice Ride’s post with a grain of salt? Is it a truckload of salt? Just another rumor that we have seen way too much of. We do not have a second source, let alone a third source saying the C8’s SOP is December.

We need a GM reveal/press release!

So what will the factory do in the meantime?

If true, this implies to me a 2020 C7.

If the C8 has been revealed, then my dilemma will be resolved and I will be able to make a decision between a C7 or a C8.

Not necessarily the ME SOP in 2019 means a 2020 ME & possibly the C7 could be stopped and go BY BY. Who knows at this point.

The story is SOP in December. The 2020 MY can start any time between now and then - 9 months to go. My point was "what happens for this 9 months?" If they go on making C7's then why not call them 2020? Or will the plant just go idle for the last 6 months of the year?

Huh okay maybe they will keep building the 2019 c7 till the end of its life.

IF the December SOP for the C8 is accurate, then the plant will probably keep making C7’s for a while longer. Also we have to build into this “best guess” calendar that first, it is now the beginning of March and that there would only be nine months between now and the supposed December SOP, and second, that amount of time has to be diminished by roughly a couple of months (give or take) for the Plant physical-turnover to transition to have the capability to make the C8. If those all those maybes turn about to be true, that would give GM approximately another seven months to make C7’s. Additionally, while BGA has traditionally taken a two week “around July 4th” summer vacation break, that break has been at least as long as a month in the past (maybe longer?), so now we are now in our purely-hypothetical calculations of roughly six more months of C7 production.

Again, all these are purely based on one person stating a) he is a supplier, and b) that GM has informed his company that the C8 is starting production in December. Are the combination of these two factors true, or are we again chasing our tails based on wrong “Corvette facts” offered on the internet?

What is everyones thoughts on the Special Edition Grand Sport Models? How many will they produce? Maybe they will be the end of the C7? Would it make sense for them to be the last C7's to be run? There is already plenty of inventory available. Hummmnnnn, Guess we'll have to hold tight till GM decides to let the cat out of the bag. Or in this case the beginning of the Manta Ray out of the Aquarium. Chazcron, Awesome Render as always. Thanks.
