  • 2022 C8 Increases $1,200

I think given runaway inflation, this is a very modest increase.

Details for the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray are officially out. We already knew it was getting three new colors: Hypersonic Gray, Caffeine and Amplify Orange Tintcoat. But now Chevy has given us some other juicy details.

The big news concerns changes made to the 6.2-liter small block V8. Chevy says it upgraded the fuel injection system and “improved” the engine calibration. That said, the engine keeps its 490 horsepower rating in base trim and 495 horsepower rating with the performance exhaust system. The 0-60 mph time for the Z51 car remains at 2.9 seconds, too. We’ll hope to gain some answers on the reasoning behind the changes when we chat with engineers later today.

The last powertrain tweak is an “enhanced” Active Fuel Management range. Chevy didn’t release fuel economy yet, but there could be some changes there with these enhancements to the cylinder deactivation system.

A few lesser changes include the addition of some aero options. There’s a new low-profile rear spoiler and a new front splitter available. Both will only be optional on the non-Z51 models.

Lastly, we come to the price. The 2022 Corvette will start at $62,195, including the destination charge. That’s a $1,200 increase over the 2021 model and $2,200 higher than the original 2020 model year price that started at $59,995. It’s never fun to see prices go up, but even with this price increase, it remains a performance bargain.

If you were thinking about going Convertible, the price went up on this model, too. It’ll start at $69,695, which amounts to the same $1,200 price increase year-over-year as the coupe. Production for the 2022 model year (in all configurations) is currently slated to begin late in the third quarter this year.

BTW, a birdie was chirping about the engine changes many months ago but that birdie was sworn to secrecy.

Might have been that the LT2 emissions which was in compliance is now even better (helping GM’;s overall emissions compliance target). Or maybe nicely the motor changes will bring about better throttle response.

Great news on pricing, some of the guessers were way out of line!

Are we talking a different engine or improvements to the current one?

Can't wait to see what has changed with any options that might be available outside of a package. I'm feeling a bit relieved about my extended wait on the list.

Perhaps the new AFM will shut off all cylinders and put the car in neutral when no feet are on the pedals going downhill.

Only about a 2% increase on base price. Not bad considering how much in demand the C8 is.

Demand on the stingray is so high. The corvette marketing team gave a gift of 2 percent increase. Rumors suggest that the rear view camera or the lane detection arrows are standard for 2022. I cant remember which.

2 percent is nothing. Be thankful. The corvette team could have gone hog wild and they didnt because the c8 represents performance and value that covers the entire chevrolet lineup if not the corporation.

thank you for the information John.

A small 2% bump in base price is less than the projected inflation rate as spec'd by Morning Star

                      https://www.morningstar.com/articles...t-heads-higher

GM is keeping the vision of the "working man's" sports car alive and well. Price increases are always a downer for those still waiting for their cars, but inflation is a fact of life right now as every one is spending after being locked up with Covid for 1+ year. Look at the crazy housing market around the nation.... now that's inflation.

The big news concerns changes made to the 6.2-liter small block V8. Chevy says it upgraded the fuel injection system and “improved” the engine calibration. We chatted with Chief Engineer Josh Holder to dig into this and the other changes on a deeper level. Essentially, the injection system operates at a higher pressure now, and Holder says this helps to lower emissions and provides greater stability at idle. That said, the engine keeps its 490 horsepower rating in base trim and 495 horsepower rating with the performance exhaust system. The 0-60 mph time for the Z51 car remains at 2.9 seconds, too. Holder noted that it took some work to both lower emissions and keep the power levels where they stand currently.

The last powertrain tweak is an “enhanced” Active Fuel Management range. Holder says that the engine will now deactivate cylinders over a broader range of rpms and in lower gears now. Engineers aren't claiming that the EPA ratings will inch upward yet (we're told to wait and see on that front), but they're certain that real world fuel economy will see a noticeable improvement."

That would require a hardware redesign, since the LT2 only has hardware to shutoff 4 of the cylinders. The actual change sounds like software.

There was actual changes to the block milling (fractional however). The block has a new part #.

We think we know there are three tweaks to the drivetrain (AFM, fuel injection and a calibration). Do we know of the positive impact, yet? Anyway, there must be better milage as they tweak AFM etc. Why would they do it, if no changes on paper?

Rear view camera, please! I am buying the Paragon wide angle side mirror inserts, anyway, as the blue tint will match my C8 and I would rather see stuff than having an alert😁
