  • LED Door Turn Signal Indicator Shown With Sequential Turn Signals

Thanks to CorvetteBlogger, we have this combination of both the Corvette’s door mirrors showing for the first time its turn signal indicator and also the sequential turn signal “fade.” Shown in the GIF below.

We threw the three main images that make up this feature into a quick gif which you can see below. The other interesting portion of this gif shows a turn-signal indicator on the passenger’s side rearview mirror.

    Thanks John!

Here's a closer view of the mirror turn signal indicator when off:

Great picture Keith! We now also see our clearest differentiation of the mirror housing’s shape/stalk. Is it also possible that what we thought was a singular LED light strip at the top of the headlight, is actually two strips, each with a wider section at their rearmost part?

There is a minimum size under US regs for the turn signal lamp that illuminates first. 75 sq cm or 12 5/8 sq in.

So it looks to be partially obscured in that image. It could in reality be 12 x 1 for instance. To meet the reg the whole strip would illuminate and then sequentially go out. Which is a fairly elegant solution.

Looking at the set closer, I found another one which shows the driver's side illuminated. You can also see that much of the turn signal on the headlights is covered by camo, which turns orange under it when activated:

                  Thought you'd like that

European regs allow more latitude with cars like Audi and my Golf R having a sequentially lit strip in that market. In North America they have to fit different turn signals which light up all at once and not nearly as cool. Some people pay a small fortune to import the Euro lights which also involves reworking the wiring harness and getting into the car's software and messing around.

I think this is the first sequential turn signal i've seen that starts large and subtracts segments, as opposed to starting with one light on the inside, and adding segments toward the outside as the signal flashes.

I wonder if that is because its overall lit area is small, and thus to meet the Federal lighting standards Bikerjulio mentioned above, that GM has done it this way. Or, is this another GM deliberate misdirection play and when the ME is revealed, the wires are reversed, or the light strip is reversed so we are then seeing something different?

If so, we again are a source of merriment to the C8’s engineers/designers.

If not about this, no doubt about some other things. At the same time, though, I'm sure they are occasionally impressed with what we get right.
