Indeed. As soon as I saw the performance numbers, I jumped right on the "base" C8 bandwagon. We have seen videos of folks with bone stock C8's getting 2.8s 0-60 times. The estimate is that the ZR-1 will best that by .2s..Now the skidpad differences will be interesting to see once it's real. So, from a track perspective, the new variants will likely chew up and spit out a Stingray C8. No question. But for what I want to do with a C8 (rip up the twisties with an occasional track weekend), I have no doubt that the "base" model will give me all I can handle. Oh and then there is the price. I am at $84,500 for a decently outfitted 2LT z51 coupe. Easily over $110k for a similarly outfitted z06, I think, and then upward from there. Just way out of my economic comfort zone for a car.

I can't wait to go to Corvette events in a couple of years to check out the new variants, and to see how the higher performance models materialize. An interesting article.

But will they bring would-be Porsche/Ferrari buyers into the Corvette fold?

I believe the stripped price of the Z06 will be $89,999, that well appointed ones are in the $115-120K range. Very speedy proposition.

The author of the above article, Angus MacKenzie, is the current International Bureau Chief at MotorTrend magazine, of course.

            746 kW is 1005 horsepower.

And for the E-Ray, the referenced 440 kW is 593 combined/total horsepower.

              Will 1,005 HP be enough?

As Carroll Shelby once said, there's no such thing is too much HP. Only not enough traction.

And the claimed 460 kW for the Z06 is just over 616 horsepower. Interesting article but who knows how accurate. I like the ZR1 render.

Which is the main reason why I'm springing for the E-Ray.

The ZR-1/Zora is going to be a monster but the E-Ray is looking better all the time as my next one.

If that ‘ZR1” render is even 90% accurate, and thus very reflective of what a Z06 will look like, then I REALLY can’t wait !!

I am anticipating marked improvements to the suspension tuning and handling of the E-Ray. Otherwise, I may have to pass.

It will be very interesting to see how the added weight of the electric motor will effect the over/under steer on corner entry/exit. I would imagine that the pull out of cornering will be stronger, but this may lead to understeer? computer programing and proper testing will likely be the key to solving these potential problems.

I do expect that the breaks will be much improved, so we may just see a wash at this point and a very nicely balanced car.

My hope is that they don't ignore these potential issues and kick the can down to the C9, just because the C8 looks nice and is novel. We want a proper handling sports car hybrid and not a fancy E-Ray badge and stickers.

Fancy names and tags just don't cut it anymore. I would rather, begrudgingly, take the Porsche and be stoned by American mussel enthusiasts - than point at my cool E-Ray badge and stickers.

A panel of 57 major automotive judges selected the C8 as the 2020 NAIAS car of the year, not the also brand new 2020 Porsche 911. I have full faith in the Corvette team and every one of its individual members; they are again each working 60-80 hour weeks right now both they Z06 and they E-Ray. I candidly feel to accuse them of just working on a fancy E-Ray badge and stickers is not only insulting but completely the reverse of what they pulled off on the C8. I have zero doubts that both the Z06 and the E-Ray will be fantastic, more than being merely an evolutionary C8.

I ran into a new 911 S owner at the major area Cars And Coffee on Saturday. He said it was his fault that he never paid any attention to the upcoming C8 and so when it came out his only option (he needed a new sports car right then) was to either pay $25K over MSRP for the C8 or buy his Porsche. He said it was his stupidity that got him into his current circumstance and that he has been on a Z06 list for two years and that will be his next car.

As to whomever chooses to buy a Porsche for whatever reasons, have at it.
