T or F: Passenger Mirror Has A Longer Stalk

Passenger mirror protrudes more? Here are the three pictures I have found which are closest to a front straight on or rear straight on view. Hopefully someone has even better pictures. Thank you to fvs for initially raising this question about many months ago.

As to why the passenger mirror stalk appears for the first time to be longer, here’s one thought.

The shape of the ME, bird’s eye, shows a very exaggerated coke bottle, not just from the side as we beautifully saw on the C3’s, but even more now due to a wider rear quarter of the C8? If so, might the longer side passenger mirror stalk be needed for the driver to safely see behind the rear quarter of the car?

Passenger side mirror in photos might be a touch longer, hard to tell. I know Federal law would not allow my idea YET, but I’m sure it is coming.
Use side view camera’s and have the view projected to a heads up display on the right and left side of windshield. Or maybe just show up on each side of the current heads up display. Better rear view with camera,, and less drag and wind noise without the mirrors sticking out from the car. Plus in the camera software, you could program various warnings about what hazards are in your danger area.

Looks to me it’s just the angle of the picture. Waay too much angst going on all around!

At first glance I thought there was a difference as well. But look at the first photo of the car from behind. Observe the cut lines for the rear hatch. Now project those lines forward to intersect with the respective mirror. Looks the same to me.

Or the whole car is asymmetrical.

If I remember correctly the ferrari testarossa from the miami vice tv show days had a passenger side mirror that needed to be on a long stalk so ferrari made both side view mirrors the same length.

from an aesthetic standpoint id prefer both side mirror stalks be equal in length...

the ferrar 488, lamborghini hurrican, mclaren 570, 600, 720 all manage equal side mirror stalks...

im sure the corvette team can as well.

The original Testarrossa that you are referring to in the first batch had only one side mirror

wjatever it takes i would suggest equal lengths..

form follows function yet design balance is something to at least consider..

im old enough to remember we didnt always have two side mirrors...and if in fact the drivers side mirror was glass im not quite sure the passenger side mirror could easily and legally house a camera if need be...

i dont believe there is a legal requirement for a mirror side view mirror on the passenger side...leaving freedom for the engineers should that be necessary.

of course the longer side view mirror stalk could just be for track work etc amd safety...

Maybe the stalk has a hingepoint at the body and the passenger side is pushed out more?
