2023 C8 Interior Redesign

Is this accurate? This is a very interesting report thanks and credit to the April 2021 issue of Motor Trend in their “MT Confidential” section.

The C8 Corvette’s somewhat fussy styling was already locked and loaded when Michael Simcoe took over at GM Design Chief.

But sources in Detroit say the mid-cycle re-design Simcoe had originally planned for 2025 has been put on the back burner as GM pours money in its electrical vehicle program. However, inside say an interior redesign aimed at among other things fixing the array of button and switches cascading down the buttress on the right side of the center console has survived the bean counters. The redesigned interior will reportedly appear on 2023 C8’s.

Will be interesting to see what they come up with. I personally like the row of buttons.
The Seat Fan Switch needs a fixed 3 position switch though - as you have to constantly press it to desired setting every time you start the car.

Even though it might not be the most pleasent solution for eye, the current design continues the C4 + C7 interior styling with the slight wall towards the passenger and I really like it. It tells you right away this is a driver focussed car. And I would always prefer having a row of buttons that I can feel while driving before hiding every useful function in the touchscreen menu that carreviewers somehow love, but it's horrible to use when driving.

Also: The C8 is pretty much the best selling Corvette they could ever imagine. When was the last time they did a refresh for a Corvette again? I honestly doubt GM would invest tons of money for an updated interior while the car sales are going crazy. And if GM has to money for that, they should instead give the Camaro some love again, since it really needs it

I don’t think anybody hates the center stack of buttons enough to bother spending the money to change it, especially this soon.
Refreshes are usually done to boost sagging sales till the next generation comes out. C8 sales are anything but sagging.
HVAC buttons are the least used and has redundant touchscreen controls anyway. Putting those buttons anywhere else would really clutter up the interior.

I think the C8 has one of the nicest interiors Ive seen from G.M in a long time. In past years I always felt that their interiors were less than desirable. Im not just talking about the Corvette since I have never had one but most of their cars in general. The combination of the exterior AND interior is the reason I will be ordering a C8

I really hope they don't get rid of the buttons and bury all the functions in the menus of the touchscreen. Virginia just passed a law against holding, not just texting on, a cell phone while driving. Dealing with menus on a touch screen while driving in my humble opinion is equally as distracting and dangerous as using a cell phone.

Thanks wbrands. I was just thinking about this last night after I saw that MT article, thinking okay if they do away with the buttons is all this info (that I now mostly use/select by touch without needing to look to the buttons) now going to have to be located and used by going through a series of screen selections. I too would not like that, also think as you do that will be a move toward not as safe.

Let’s see, to just up my fan speed by one, I would first change what is currently on my center stack IP screen (typically my music I am listening to) to selecting the IP icon for home, then the one for HVAC, then select the part of HVAC components shown on the next screen so I select the fan icon on the screen, then when that opens I click on the sub-icon that increases the fan speed by one.

Or as now, again without looking move my right hand to the center of the stack and easily finger-locate the raised fan switch and push it once forwards — raising my fan speed once in a second or so without once taking my eyes of the road.

I agree with the majority. I like the cockpit, and don’t look at the buttons as a nuisance. My wife likes having control of her side as well.

I would like to see a more integrated Nav Screen into the Dashboard.

I never liked that iPad sticking out of the Dashboard look.

I just appears to me like an afterthought and a incomplete design.

I like the cockpit also. IMO they should put any 'update' money into trying to fix the busy rear facia and tailights, to blend with the rest of the design.

I understand and agree visually with you, but if you look at tons of other new vehicles that is how they now are in most. Reason: Their sticking up reduces the amount of time one is looking down away from the road ahead.

I expect the C8’s interior changes to be not many. Competing again vehicles with price tags up to $ 500,000 the C8 was one of the top ten in the world as selected by England’s premiere industrial evaluation firm “Wards.”

I agree with the majority. I like the cockpit, and don’t look at the buttons as a nuisance. My wife likes having control of her side as well.

It is important for my wife also to be able to control the radio on trips, so my question is can a passenger easily control and view the radio from her seat? It looks difficult to me for her to do so but I have not yet had an opportunity to try it. Personally I have never liked the arrangement of the new cockpit although I see I am in the minority. For us it seems too driver-centric. But I understand the rationale. Maybe I would grow to like it if I get a C8 --Bob
