POLL: What New 2022 C8 Model Is Coming

Z06? E-Ray? Special Edition? Nothing New for 2022?

Candidly, we do not know for despite everyone’s best efforts, the Corvette team has so far kept a perfect lid on what is coming and when. We recently discerned that the timetable for the new 2022’s probably first customer-arriving could be around mid/late August or early September. There is some reliability in that production as it is based on an official GM communication that June 17th is the last DOSP that a 2021 order can be placed.

But what is coming that is new other than the just GM announced that we will be getting three new 2022 colors (replacing dearly departed Sebring Orange, Shadow Gray Metallic and Zeus Bronze)?

Assumption: As the Corvette team is very small, there will not be two different 2022 models (except if no new model, perhaps two different special editions could both appear for 2022).

I believe the corvette engineering team including the shift to assist the ev team can do both E ray and z06 but with demand so high why bring out a new model?

usually new models are brought out to re energize consumer demand.

possibly a higher priced model could increase profit margins ?


if I were in charge of GM Id hold off new models until demand of the stingray can be properly met...

but im not in charge.. i think the E ray would be a nice ev lead in for GMs upcoming electric car revolution

Which one of those would be easier to accomplish E-ray or Zo6? I think the best thing for the company would be to produce the E-Ray but I do not know if Chevy has the components necessary to complete it. EV craze is upon us and the more EV exposure for the company the better.

Sooner or later, and probably sooner, the 5.5L FPC, Quad Cam, 32 Valve Engine has to make an appearance for C8.R homologation purposes!

That used to be true but with GTLM ending and as the racing body gave the Ford GT 3 years of competition allowance when in complete violation of the basic rules tenet that they had to sell a customer version of what they were racing, I do not think homologation makes any difference any more, i.e., they can’t kick Corvettes out for they are the class of the class right now.

However, I totally agree with you, though for other reasons, that we will see the Z06 with the 5.5L, quad cam, 32 valve motor. Whether for the 2022 MY or the 2023 is my question.

John, as you probably know, the eventual GTD (or GT3)-PRO will have even more restrictive homologation rulings! IMSA would do almost anything they could get away with if they thought they could keep more manufacturers in the fray!

That is a good question. When we first polled MECF members a while back if they would consider a hybrid Corvette there were almost no positive responses. Our last poll about six week ago is showing about 1/3 would consider it or are definitely getting one. Two of my friends have completely switched their plans from a year ago, from earlier definitely getting a Z06 to now they are planning to get an E-Ray.

Guessing that the E-Ray’s pricing and its specs would make a difference in whether some would consider it, but the majority here at this time are plain not interested. That’s cool!

We were 100% “Z06 ahead for us,” and still heavily leaning that way, but we are at least curious as to what the E-Ray might be, e.g. pricing specs, wide-bodied or not, extra performance and so many other things. If the E-ray comes out as a 2022, we would not get it but still will wait until the Z06’s reveal and again as of today, “Z06 ahead” for us.

I hope the E-Ray is stupendous and draws a large amount of purchasers, and equally hope the Z06 is super tantalizing for those who wish to get it! Would it not be terrific if the E-Ray was so good that even those who know there is no chance of their buying one, those that are 100% getting a Z06, still have major admiration for the E-Ray that the Corvette team created.

In the past, wide-bodied Corvettes were the GS’s and other higher hp derivatives. With the C8 Stingray already 5” wider than the C7 Stingray, how much wider can a C8 E-Ray, Z06, or Zora be? My C8 is already a tight fit on my 4-post lifts!!!

The best little birdie information we have is that the wide-bodied versions’ front fender’s width will be identical to what we currently have (but perhaps with perhaps canards added?), and that the rear scoops will be 5/8” wider each side. Might the wider scoops translate into wider rear fenders and/or wider rear fascia’s in those small amounts???

With unpredictable production delays and strong demand for the Stingray does GM need to rush introducing the Z06? Maybe mid 22 intro.

John, this is actually not true regarding Ford getting three years of competition allowance. All of the teams had to agree to the specified time limit and Ford was delivering customer cars in the second year as agreed. Ford followed through on their four year commitment even though they were penalized beyond the rules for performance. The GT was the only car running without exemptions and in fact was running the smallest displacement motor, with the least boost/horsepower, and most weight for most of the series. It is a true shame because they were seriously looking at running the GTD class and it would have been great to see GTs running against C8s. The manipulation of performance for the excuse of making the class better for spectators is what killed the class.

I just don't see why they would introduce anything new at this time, with wait lists a year or more at most dealers. Doesn't make sense to me. Why introduce a new model that nobody can get their hands on? Let the hype die down some for the base model, then introduce something.
