Once again the Cadillac CT5-V is probably showing the way. These are might impressive brakes and might a version of them show up on the Z06/Z07, be an option on the two “lower” level Z06’s?

Brembo Reveals Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing Will Have Incredible Stopping Power

This is a first for Cadillac.

Enthusiasts rejoiced when Cadillac lifted the wraps off the new CT5-V Blackwing. With a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 rated at 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque, the CT5-V Blackwing is the most powerful production Cadillac ever made, which probably hasn't gone unnoticed by its German rivals. Pricing starts at $83,995, and while the online configurator isn't live yet, Cadillac recently confirmed to us that a fully loaded example will set you back over $125,000 if you tick all the options.

So far, Cadillac has only confirmed that carbon fiber packages will be available, but Brembo has announced the CT5-V will be available with a carbon-ceramic brake package providing superior stopping power. This will be the first time a Cadillac has ever been available with a carbon-ceramic braking system.

As standard, the CT5-V Blackwing is fitted with high-performance cast iron brakes. While the carbon ceramic brakes are similar in size with 15.7 x 1.5-inch front discs and 14.6 x 1.3 inch rear discs, they are significantly lighter. While the standard front discs weigh 36.6 pounds, the carbon ceramic version only weighs 16.5 pounds. Likewise, at the rear carbon ceramic brake discs weigh 12.8 pounds, around half the weight of the standard rear discs that weigh 24.5 pounds. In total, the ceramic brake package reduces the CT5-V's weight by 63.6 pounds, which is a significant saving for a large luxury sedan. Unsprung weight savings on each corner will also improve the CT5-V Blackwing's handling.

There is a company that has Carbon Ceramic rotors for the C8. $7800 for rotors and aluminum hats, set of front and rear with pads( 4 corners ) they have a street/ track pad compound that is ok on the street and track without changing the pads. And no dust, but noise can be a problem on the street.

Savings of 32 pounds of unstrung weight for the set of 4 Z06 wheels would be fantastic. And if we couple that with the weight savings for potential mag wheels, another average of 7 pounds less per wheel for the 20” rears and roughly 5 pounds less per wheel for the fronts (source AC Motorsports), putting all these things together as a combo would result in about 50 pounds less. As all these saving are unsprung weight which IMO is worth 2 pounds for every one, this would result in a great performance gain if together on a Z06/Z07 version.

Where and when do I send my check for this married duo?

CC are great for the unstrung weight and no-fade benefits, BUT... this comes with a significant cost— no such thing as a free lunch.

Cool temp performance of CC brakes can (will) be significantly degraded relative to traditional rotor/pad designs (not just in feel, but in actual performance). Given your locale in PNW, I would think long and hard about getting these as an option unless you plan/are willing to ride the pedal a bit during each drive to keep them at proper temp.

I know a buddy who has them on his 911 daily driver and dedicated track car here in Tucson and he actually said he’d probably opt for base brakes on the DD if he had to do it all over again.

As we have the advantage of time, perhaps I should tune in to the CT5-V forums and see what owners says about their street usage. Perhaps as the new gen Brembo’s they have figured that out — but as you noted that is a hard nut to crack for both street and track.

Since our Z06 will have a budget, maybe we put the money into the extra cost mag wheels instead. I do like the color of the mags as shown in the pictures.

As Racer86 stated, you can adjust the performance (to some degree) by working with various pad compounds, but in your neck of the woods it’s gonna be hit/miss irrespective.

Agreed that if the CC package comes mandatory with Cup2s, it’ll be an issue for a goodly number of folks. I figure if I go this route, I will use the Cups for the drive home and really get the most out of them on the mountain roads and then shift to PS4s or comparable upon arrival in Old Pueblo.

All of the above is of course dependent upon timing and location of delivery as I ain’t gonna make a Winter drive home.

I know of two driver’s who on their first drive from their dealership with their Cup 2’s, in the rain wrecked their Z06 on their way home. In all fairness I would rate one of their driving skills as a C+ (but no amount of the rest of his Corvette club talking to him would convince him not to order the Z07 version). The other Z06 wreck was caused by going to fast for the conditions (the usual). He also was not in weather mode even though it was around 35-40 degrees.
