  • Skank’s C8 Potential Split Window Possibility: Post of The Day Award Winner

Congratulations Skank, and if true, congratulations to all of us for the following Post Of The Day.

The below deliberately blurred switch icon triggered this question and Skank’s post. Thanks to Carscoops for their pictures.

It has the shape of the rear ventilator frame with a center rib down the middle. There's a real possibility of a split window detail as there's really no reason to have full vision out the back of that heavily sloped and distorted rear window when they now have a wide angle Digital Rear View Streaming Mirror/Camera. The shape of that rear hatch ventilator frame could easily allow a glass overlay detail that could create a split window look or leave it off for people that don't want it. With that rear view camera a rear window is actually unnecessary.

In fact, it kind of makes all sorts of sense to do this as the 63 split window coupe is a Icon for Corvette. They could treat the rear window frame as a design element that could be Matte black, Carbon Flash, Dark Grey, body colored, or even centerline bookmatched Carbon Fiber like the ZR1 and many other high end exotics. This is going on the list.

If there is a component part surrounding the rear window hatch, especially if in metal, its shape could be very variable. Or, as also noted, perhaps it is a treatment within the rear window glass itself.

Whoops, I just spent for another option.

Might next to that circled switch, be one confirming a front axle lift system?

Unlikely, I think. The split window on the 63 was to allow the "spine" of the Stingray to continue in an unbroken line. There's no indication of any such styling cue or line on the C8. We have pics of the rear window with no split. And why would you need a button for that, anyway?

Yeah, I doubt it too. Not a part of the design.

I upped the brightness and contrast a little. I've tried to compare these icons to known GM icons in use. They seem unusually "busy" compared to others. I still think the center one could be showing an open rear hatch.

Even though I don't have a clue on the right one, it would make sense in a convertible to have all three opening buttons together. Another bit of camo?

I just realized I messed up on thinking the center button could be rear hatch. It opens the wrong way.

Now I'm seeing it as definitely looking like a front lift.

It shows the front left quarter with about 1/2 the front wheel, and about to go over a curb and scrape the splitter. With an "Up-down" arrow above the nose.

As for the right button - how about rear window heat?

I'm just finding this a strange location for the "open" buttons.

Looks like a button for the convertible top. Well to me that is.

Would it not be nice if they were not blurred. As asked earlier, by whom and why.

to me that right button looks like it's a skeleton of a drivetrain. the top would be the front two wheels and the bottom would be the rear two wheels, drawn with perspective view (the front wheels smaller and closer together as they would be farther away and the closer rear wheels wider and bigger, then a bunch of **** at the bottom.

That makes sense, now that you point out that possible arrow (I was wondering what the heck that was, and it is likely an upward pointing arrow).

So what if the button on the right is to turn on the front camera? The pic on the button has the front wheels at the bottom and the rear wheels at the top and you are pulling forward into some bushes ?

my 8 year old son just informed me that it's a picture of a piranha, the two dark holes are eyes and he has a big lower jaw open and you can see his tail sticking out on the left.
