  • ME’s Infotainment System Capabilities and Components

Sometimes we can learn best about what is coming next in the ME Corvette, by reviewing what GM just debuted tonight in the Cadillac XT6. Sure some components and capabilities will be changed, but if it is state of the art Cadillac, why would not GM use that same basic system, with its brand new features within the soon upcoming C8.

Is it mere coincidence that both center stack screens have the same 8” wide screen? It is the identical screen? While it could be, that we do not know of course.

Will some of the below XT6 features not be found on any level of the C8? Absolutely. But much of it will overlap IMO, and thus be found with some levels of the next gen Corvette,

Note: While all below is verbatim from tonight’s XT6 press release, I have taken the liberty of removing content/information not relating to the Infotainment system. One can read the entire XT6 pres release at the below link.

Thoughtful technology integration is central to the XT6’s mission of offering a seamless and intuitive in-vehicle experience. It elevates connectivity to a new threshold for Cadillac, with some of the brand’s most advanced features.

The latest Cadillac user experience5 provides more ways to interface with the system, including one-touch phone pairing via Near Field Communication and a new rotary controller with intuitive jog functionality. And when it comes to plugging in, all models come with six USB ports2 (two for each row of seats).

Additional available driver support and connectivity technologies include:
    • Personalization — user profiles stored in the Cloud6 allow customers to access their custom profile in other properly equipped GM vehicles.
    • Updated navigation7 functionality with natural address entry.
    • Capable of supporting SiriusXM 360L.
    • 4G LTE Wi-Fi® hotspot (includes 3GB or three months of data, whichever comes first)8.
    • Apple CarPlay9 and Android Auto10 for compatible smartphones.
    • Next-generation, 15-watt wireless charging3.
    • Teen Driver.
FEATURE FOCUS: ROTARY CONTROLLER WITH NEW JOG FUNCTION
The XT6’s rotary controller with new jog function is a first for Cadillac and is designed to complement hard buttons and steering wheel controls, making it even easier to navigate the UX on the HD 8-inch-diagonal color touchscreen display. It builds on the technology introduced on the XT4, adding the jog function to allow the user to tilt the knob — similar to a joystick — to easily navigate between the items on the touchscreen display.

As you learn its capabilities, would you please share here, for you are our best scout into our understanding the ME’s screen/systems. Your picture was better than in GM’s press release. Thank you.

This was a $65K + priced pick up truck, John. i have no idea how anyone can expect a Corvette to have more attributes then a truck for the same money!!

There is nothing to say that the beautiful ME interior we saw a couple of days ago is not a 4LT interior option costing $14,750, that the front axle lift system is not another $2,000 option, that there is not an optional safety/tech/infotainment package costing $3,000, etc.

The option/extra cost list for ME is going to be considerable, easily taking well equipped ones close to, and in more than rare cases, exceeding
$100K — especially for the HT convertible. And unlike your and others trucks now being heavily discounted, discounts will be none or exceptional rare (my brother owns the dealership) on the ME for a while.

How about if we please just agree to disagree on the MSRP for the ME?

In 1970 dollars an IBM Selectra Type writer was $1000 (10K$ 2019). Today a Computer&Printer is about $1000 (2019 dollars) and does documents and much more. The ME's many features are computer function. The cameras and hardware already exist in the GM capability across their entire product line.

The small 50K$ Tesla is loaded with features. Hopefully GM is being equally creative with the ME. As a big company GM can load the ME with quality stuff off it's shelf. The trucks are hot and over priced.
