  • Hoping For C8’s HUD To Have A Jump-Shift Into The Future Technology

Seeing the post the other day from Bradd66 about how much better his C7’s HUD is from his C5’s, and this morning reading about the CES conference and further strides in HUD development, including now holographic displays on the inside of the windshield, I am very optimistic that a greatly improved HUD could be one of the C8’s surprise gems.

Even my wife’s Mazda 3 GT displays as you approach it, if you wish, upcoming stop signs (an actual red one with white lettering in octagonal shape). Would it not be exciting if the C8 debuts some first class, many color, symbols, turn signals, and similar but even more that, a jump shift in its HUD display?

    In the G80 Hyundai concept being show at CES today;

Common C8, give us some breakthrough HUD technology!

The Corvette HUDs have improved so much over the years, and I too hope (and anticipate) the C8 offers another level of improvement.

I ordered the 2LT package on my C7 primarily for the HUD - I really enjoy it and take advantage of it.

The only thing I do worry about is "data overload" - giving the driver more information than he/she can effectively use, but I expect that's a primary consideration in the minds of the GM engineers involved with next-generation HUD tech.

I like the HUD. I didn't think I would use it much because we have a HUD in our SCBA face masks to let us know how much air we have left and I don't consciously look at it. I know what the air level is and while it's completely different technology, I find myself consciously looking at the HUD instead of the instrument panel. The nice feature is when you use nav.
Great point John that this can and should be improved in the C8. The safety features would also be a nice addition.

I agree about distractions. I keep my HUD set to the most minimal setting. It shows speed and when I shift briefly the gear I'm in. That's all. If I'm in a situation where I need to worry about redline, I'll switch the display, but most of the time speed is all I need.

Turn signals would be handy, though.

If our Mach III fighter pilots use HUD to their safety and more, I am not concerned about “distractive” issues, especially as meyerweb noted you can adjust it, e.g., its height, its brightness, and maybe even with the C8’s, choose its colors.l

I’ve never found it distracting, especially when you compare it to adjusting the radio or hvac controls!

It’s putting on my makeup while texting and also making dinner while I am driving, that makes it dicey for my passengers,

I would like the HUD to display the presence of police cars in front of the car, and the rear view mirror to display the presence of police cars approaching from the rear.

Something I noticed when I was at the dealer today getting the oil changed in my C7 is that higher trim levels of the new Silverado have HUD.

Didn't see it in operation so don't know what it looks like.

Brad, if you go buy one tomorrow, then please bring your video camera (for your passenger) to show us what, at least, we will be ME getting.

Gotta look good John. Your passengers are probably astonished with your multi-task dexterous ability. Cooking dinner while driving is especially impressive. Some folks only attempt to eat dinner, text and apply makeup while driving. You are able to take it to a new level. Please post video of your accomplishment.

Think I'll take your lead and try that while driving to the dentist this morning. Not really interested in getting there safely anyway even though its only a clean and check.

The Waze app can help with police cars up-front (the app has saved me more than once), but only the mirrors provide help with them approaching from behind.

We have Android Auto in our daily drivers, and Waze is our goto default app.

It would seem to me that there is a lot less to run into when flying a plane. I realize the speed involved but there are no vehicles right next to you, street signs, curbs, pedestrians, stop lights, etc. I think you get the message.
