Don’t Fear “Flat Camaro Butt” For the C8

I see many posts indicating concern or even fear of “flat Camaro Butt.” Not to worry, as in:

Breathe easier, for the C8’s rear is going to look even more different from the current or last gen’s Camaro’s than the C7’s rear.

The ME’s rear fascia is going to first off be much more rounded than our C7’s, with its outside corners tucked forward more, a much more “flattened U” shape than our C7’s.

And even much more than that compared to the Camaro, e.g., how side-to-side the Camaro’s top fascia is almost a straight line.

There are also going to be some very nice ME rear “treatments” which will be true eye candy. Sorry I can not be more specific.

fvs’ has provided us with two spy pics that show a greatly more rounded rear on the ME than the C7, including that curve on the hatch and the matching one on the rear fascia’s top.

This bdsvavars rendering should help remove some of angst about the rear fascia — and it does not show a single one of the three rear attractive features I am talking about.

GM listens to its customers, and has heard for years the need to further differentiate the Camaro’s rear fascia from the Corvette’s. They are sick of comparisons between the C7 and the Camaro’s rear fascia. GM has has listened — as we will later see.

    Fear not...

Had someone comment to me the other day that my C7 has a "race car" rear end. I expect that Chevy has built upon and refined the C7 rear even more for the C8.

Those overhead views of the C7 and C8 are so very sexy.

Is it any wonder we love these cars so much? (yes, that's a rhetorical question)

I hope there's an optional (or even standard) rear fascia with a body colored "bumper," instead of black, as shown in the renders above. Or perhaps something like these treatments of the C7 rear, with the black an accent highlight the "aero" parts.

That helps with transonic drag too.

I too hope so. Would it not be financially smart of GM, to make all such C8 appurtenances, things as splitter, skirts and spoiler, body color standard, then know that so many like them carton flash metallic black, charge a moderate amount extra for the optional black ones, and a ton more for optional visible carbon fiber ones?

I notice the extra drag every time I get near the speed of sound in my C7.

Your car is a beauty Brad. You will definitely see some parallels in the C8 coupe’s rear deck to exactly this. That will be an excting part of the ME.
