A New York Auto Show mid-April C8 reveal remains very possible, moving toward probable, in my opinion.
How many of us have heard of the phrase “under promise and over deliver?” I venture everyone.
Faced with all the bad news GM has had recently, not just the major layoffs, its six models going extinct this year (Volt, CT6, Impala, Cruze, etc), but also the rumor after rumor of the C8’s reveal not being before May, more than a few automedia saying not until this summer, what if GM has gotten smarter and deliberately talked “out loud” knowing the following information would be widely disseminated.
The mid engine Corvette is delayed six months due to a major electrical system design, and its reveal will be May at the earliest, more probably this summer, at a stand alone event, with GM knowing while they shared that inside information, while most of what was subsequently reported was and remains accurate, that there is still a 90% chance that the C8’s reveal is going to take place at the U.S.’s biggest auto show, the New York Auto Show (NYAS).
Over 1,100,000 individuals attend NYAS, and the nationwide press articles/pictures/videos coming out of it reach a worldwide audience in the mega-megamillions.
If so, the private, invite only, stand alone, mid engine C8 reveal would be Tuesday night, April 16th, the NYAS press days would be Wednesday and Thursday, April 17th and 18th, and the public days ocurring April 19th-29th.
The double advantage of NYAS being the ME’s reveal site, is that opens up the door to thousands of Corvette owners also seeing the mid engine ten days layer at the annual National Corvette Museum BASH, their attending seminars led by Tadge, Harlan, Kai, Kirk and other top members of the Corvette team on April 25-27th . Talking about an event with audience with the highest percentage of potential ME buyers....
I made my New York Auto Show hotel reservations in November. I am sure not cancelling them, especially as more than a few hotels around the Jacob Javitz Convention center are already booked for the NYAS time.
We all remember that the historical 1953 New York City Corvette Motorama reveal. Does this add to the sentiment of a NYC 2020 ME debut? BTW, I checked the Waldorf Astoria, site of the ‘53 Motorama, but it is closed for a massive remodel until 2021; however, could GM rent the Javitz Conference Center, the site of the NYAS, before the show starts, for a mega-location, private invitation reveal?
If this were to occur, the C8’s private reveal the day before the NYAS press days, would be exactly 105 days from now.
Here was the NYAS reveal of the C7 Z06 convertible:

Nothing is for sure, but to me it is also far from sure that the ME’s standalone reveal is not coming until May or later, nor secondly that that the C8’s reveal does not have a next-day-tie to our nation’s biggest auto show and its massive nation wide and world wide audience.
