  • Could the C8 ZORA be revealed at the 24hr of LeMans ?

Realizing the ZORA reveal may now take place next Summer instead of the Spring it makes sense to reveal the ZORA at an important event. No other race in the world is as important to Team Corvette Racing as the 24hr of Le Mans. That race is the pinnacle of endurance racing which is what Team Corvette based their engineering results on being transferred unto the production car. Since the C5R in 1999 our Corvette has been developed and enhanced like no other car in America. The racetrack at Bowling Green is even based off of key corners and straights of the Le Mans course. A couple years ago I was lucky enough to attend the Le Mans race while renting a Camper and experiencing the race as most people recommend. It was amazing to see the cars in the dead of night racing around at that speed. All the while a hundred thousand racefans partied into the night until sunrise. On Friday there is a Pit Walk for the fans. Walking down through the huge pits I noticed the Porsche GT PRO class had some fans around. Then arriving at the Corvette pit there was a huge crowd. The French and Euro crowd certainly respect and love the powerhouse Corvette team. I was lucky enough to get through the crowd and get a tour through the Corvette pit by some team members. Such are the benefits of knowing Doug Fehan. I had a nice talk with Doug Louth and walked out of there high as a kite knowing that the fans love that deep rumble exhaust note. The Ford GT made it's European reveal at Le Mans a year prior to actually racing there with a huge crowd response. I suspect a ZORA reveal at their huge pavillion with the production car and C8R race car would be a massive hit for GM. GM could then bring the cars back to America for other IMSA race exposures during the entire summer. In August they would then show it at Monterey Classic Car Week where there is the largest display of mid engined cars in the world. Remember, the C7 Stingray was first given to the media to drive and test at Monterey(Marina autocross track). That was the first actual media drive event for the C7 by GM. This makes all sorts of logic and hopefully this is what will happen. I can feel a French trip coming!

Interesting question. I sure do not know. Hopefully we get some information during the first three of months of 2019 as to where it would be. If announced to be LeMans, while it would truly be a once in a lifetime event, I would pass, using that trip’s money instead to pay for some of my ME options — as I would for any reveal outside of the USA.

Still personally betting on the reveal either being a private reveal the day before the NYAS press days (mid April), or the night before the May 26th Indy 500, then having the ME be the race’s PACE CAR.

    Thank you Skank.

Could be at any race event...so sure...why not lemans..

      ive settled myself to wait...

i had a few laughs over at porsches configurator for their 2020 992 that theyve already shown to the public..

nice sports car if a bit pricey...

ive also been enjoyi g a lot of reviews on the mclaren 570...

that to me seems about the closest to what we can expect from the c8 minus 40 or 50 hp...

surprisingly the front tire size on the 570 is as small as 225...

i was surprised yet id imagine as a sports car for the road more so than the track....the smaller front tire size aids in nimbleness...and fun...

a couple of the local sports car enthusiasts seem to be picking up 570 s in and around 150 or 160 grand....stepping up from their previous corvette z51 s, aston martin vantages and quite often 993 or 991 turbos...

something tells me porsche may have begun to reach a saturation point on pricing ...

as great as the cars are...if you go to their configurator....they are the masters of increasing transaction prices...

ive never seen so many useless yet interesting options in my life...

kudos to porsche meanwhile mclaren seems to be scooping up previous porsche owners quite a lot...

i probably would stretch to the 570 spaceship myself if i were shopping 992 911s...

one gets barely noticed and the other is like a rock star...

one you have two little jump seats and the other is like a formula one car for the street..

      mclaren for the win...

as far as getting back to when the c8 releases....omg..who knows and its getting tedious.

Thank you Skank. How about if you win a big lottery and take all current MECF members who would want to go the LeMans ME reveal in your privately chartered jets? I’ll bet you would have lots of takers.

I would love to go to LeMans this coming June. Just for the race itself. If the reveal would also be happening there, even better. But, like life, the amount of time and money are considerations for me.

I will wait for a USA reveal.

None of the other cars have the same sound as a Corvette's rumble. It's heavenly.

LeMans would be a great place to reveal it, however, I believe the car will debut on American soil.

LeMan is almost a full week of massively timed, competing and complimentary events. GM is not going to want, IMO, to reveal the car with major attention being on so many other activities and vehicles. By hey, the last time I was consistently right was when I was a teenager.
