  • C8 to be introduced at stand-alone event next summer?

That's what GM Authority is claiming:

Previously, GM Authority broke the news that the 2019 North American International Auto Show would not play host to the mid-engine C8 Corvette’s debut. In fact, we also learned and exclusively reported the car had been delayed six months due to electrical issues.

When will the mid-engine C8 Corvette show up? Likely summer of 2019, according to our sources close to the matter. GM Authority can confirm a major auto show will not star the debut of the highly anticipated sports car. Instead, look for the mid-engine Corvette to have its own standalone reveal.

Although we never confirmed a New York Auto Show debut next year, we did highlight the show’s importance to the Corvette and previously brought up the possibility. The original 1953 Corvette model debuted in the Big Apple that year during GM’s annual Motorama event.

Our sources have floated a summer 2019 debut, perhaps May at the earliest. Enthusiasts and fans will need to hold tight for a while longer as Chevrolet prepares to show off the most revolutionary Corvette in decades.

It’s unclear if the car was ever meant to debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, but engineers uncovered a major electrical issue with the car during the development process. According to our sources, the system is currently unable to carry the necessary load needed to support components.

Certainly possible. Perhaps they are making up this rumor, and going with a earlier surprise in April at NY?

The “reserved” part of me is wondering how many “clicks” they go by sharing this, and their about two weeks ago, their sharing “six month electrical delay.”. Not saying that there were then or are now wrong — for there sure does seem to be at least repeat corroboration information about electrical issue they pioneered, but personally the only official news I am banking on will be an official GM announcement, i.e., I have not bought airline tickets to anything yet.

I remain cautious with pronouncements for another major media on one day said, “definitely NAIAS,” then literally less than 36 hours later, said, “definitively not NAIAS.”

I have been considering going to NYC for that show, and The Bash. Kinda figure there might be a chance to catch a look at one, at least.

Anybodies guess of when the c8 will be revealed...lol

corporate marketing in general these days....say nothing official and let the internet journalists create headlines all on their own...over and over again until enthusiasts get tired of the up and down rollercoaster ride and just about dont give a ****....

            then release....

pretty mich what toyota did with the supra releases which is I believe after burning up the internet for quite some time finally is officially being revealed to lackluster interest at the detroit show...

will anybody even show up or care?

supra enthusiasts are disgusted...hhahah....maybe the vehicle...maybe the marketing ploys used that dragged out the introduction to the point of being tedious ...

hopefully the corvette marketing team wont be as long winded...in inteoducing the lastest and greatest corvette....

            drumroll please....

Interesting thought JB, I think some of the tediosness (is that a word?) had started creeping in over the last few weeks, and voila a new sighting ... hmm ... how convenient.

whatever, I enjoy my C7, when the C8 hits, I'll go and see if it has the "it" factor we all hope it does.

I agree, I think you just can’t draw out the process too long, like Toyota has. I think all you really need is 2 to 3 weeks worth of build up in the hype a.k.a. teasers and you’re set for your reveal.

John, I'd say that you are probably right.

The Supra took way too long to develop. Expectations were high, with enthusiasm for a next gen Supra. What Toyota delivered was more BMW, deflating hopes for a super performing turboed Supra.

If GM authority has it right, I earlier suggested that an outstanding place to do so, with world-wide coverage, would be the May 26th Indy 500. Not only are the 250,000 spectators there who are going to see the 2020 mid engine C8 as its Indy500’s Pace Car, but also U.S. TV audience is 4,900,000 and an additional 2,000,000 worldwide TV audience.

The facility is huge, so IMO have Bruce Springsteen there a night before to a closed off reveal area, charge admission including his show and including Indy 500 race tickets, and reveal the two 2020 C8’s with a background of several GM mid engine Corvette prototypes on the stage behind them — with live streaming all over the internet. Then the morning of the race, for those who were not at the previous night’s reveal, on the facility’s mega screens, rebroadcast the reveal event.

Last August I posted Monterey, California as a potential reveal location for the ZORA. Most forum members dissed the thought thinking that it was too high brow of a event to reveal the new mid engined Corvette. Then during last June's Motor Trends Best Drivers Car Test I talked to Ron Kiino of Corvette marketing. I commented to him that when GM eventually gets around to revealing their new special car, that they consider doing it at Monterey. He knew what I was refering to and just grinned. I then asked him to put this idea out to Harlan Charles, Tadge Juechter, and company. He agreed and said he would relay that thought. Knowing the current situation I still belive this to be a incredible place to do the reveal. If not the ZORA maybe Cadillac's version of the mid engine ZORA. The Monterey Classic Car week with it's crown jewel show "Pebble Beach Concour D'Elegance" would garner more captured potential buyers than any single car show in America or Europe. The entire Classic car week has more mid engine sports car manufacturers displaying their latest than any event, anywhere in the entire world. There are at least five venues during the week where the Corvette Zora could be displayed to thousands of potential buyers. No other world Exotic Car event comes remotely close to this. The Quail, Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca, and the Concept Car Display at the Pebble Beach Concour are the top three venues to focus on initially. There are three other events that could also work. We have to remember that this is a huge event for all other Sports Car companies as well. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Konnigsegg, Bugatti, McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin, Audi, Mercedes Benz AMG, BMW, Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce all have Salons set up and some even have huge multi-million dollar temporary buildings set up to capture the buyer. It is HUGE ! All eyes would be on GM and the Corvette team especially Porsche since the ZORA could really take sales from them more than any other. All manufacturers have ride and drive programs to entice the buyers and the Salons with sales experts to assist in configuring their cars to the potential buyer. Hopefully they will as the exposure from this International show would send Corvette into the world limelight.

What Monterey lacks, though, is the kind of audience John points out for Indy. The Monterey show is more of a niche event, with a much smaller audience of much richer people than the average 'vette buyer.
