  • Corvette GT Emblem Patented?

GM filed this GT emblem patent. It was found yesterday by jagamajajaran! Thank you Jag! Here’s a question we need to ask ourselves first, is this GM GT emblem patent for the mid engine C8?

Does this dovetail with recent comments made by “unlimitedPower,” that there will be after the first, 2020 model year, a GT version of the ME? Interesting that this patent was filed in June of 2016, however just granted on October 2nd of this year?

Might we see this exact emblem on the side of the ME? Or elsewhere on the C8?

For those who doubted the thread started by “unlimitedPower” two days ago, where he laid out GM’s Development plans, first is a one paragraph quote from it, then a link to his entire thread quote should you wish to read it.

The GT is as luxurious as if Cadillac designed it, because a Cadillac team is in fact responsible for the GT. It’s a true GT and in addition to standard MRC it will deploy a full gamut of NVH countermeasures like acoustic glass, heavy sound deadening, and special wheels/tires, all for a cross country tourer that with a twist of the mode dial will handle any road or even a race track. The GT will be propelled by a version of Cadillac’s 4.2L twin turbo V8 with the turbos moved to the sides, and this engine is said to be the quietest V8 GM has ever developed. Word is that GM benchmarked the Corvette GT’s NVH against German luxury tourers from Mercedes Benz and BMW. Not sports cars, tourers.

Does this GM patent of the GT symbol support the C8 future development plans that he shared with us, specifically now that we have found a specific GT emblem? Or is this GM patent just for another GM brand or model?

That we do not yet know. But I wonder, did “unlimitedPower” know of this GM “GT emblem patent” when he wrote his thread, and/or does he know even more than he is yet sharing?

Might we hear more from him later?

    Inquiring minds are very curious.

And before we leave these initial questions, thank you again jagamajajaran for finding the GM patent!

Mclaren 570 is offered in S trim and GT trim successfully.

id imagine the corvette team saw things along the same lines for the c8..

makes sense woth or without the cadillac variant ever going to market..

cadillac paid for the research and development and quite possibly bailed on the idea to concentrate on cuvs ..

the corvette research and development already had the work done and just decided to run with the work done since cadillac division is not...

there are tons of corvette owners who would love a gt version...ie thicker glass, better leather, more options etc...for long dostance or even local comfort..

i would nt be buying a gt...but many many corvette buyers will...

people have been calling for a GT version for a long time..

cadillac division paid for the research and development so what the hell....offer it up as a GT since the parts were ordered designed and ready to go...

no reason for the corvette marketing team not to give it a spin...

id be curious what mclarens ratio of S (sport) model 570s they sell to 570 GT models...

i see this as a great opportunity...

ps my wife wont even drive in my various corvettes...says they are too loud...for guys that want their spouses happy and in the car next to them...the gt is a great choice....for me...i like it loud and raw...no wife riding shotgun is just fine by me.. (kidding)

the GT model will be a much sought after option package.

then again a lot of us will prefer the sport model for a more raw intimate connected experience leaning closer to a race car like driving experience for the street..

im sure many of us enjoy imagining we are race car drivers (not speeding etc but just enjoying the raw race car like driving experience)

and of course lets not forget those of us who are cheap *******s who just want the performance..

the stnadard car with z51 like options including heavy duty cooling and suspension..

i love that option...i always feel it is such a fantastic idea to order that option pack if offered...

longer better durability plus a little better potiential performance...but just from a durability standpoint...for decades I order [email protected] a minimum for all my corvettes...

seems to have worked for me in the past so i will definitely continue on this path..

the carbon ceramic brakes id pass on although lifetime rotors is tempting...its too expensive at 7500 to be an option Id check off...

now if z51 was a 4 grand option and a follow up z51 inclusive track pack offered up carbon fiber wheels for 10 grand total...i might check that box off..(similiar to what ford did with the GT350 R)

i thought that upgrade to R model was a sweet “track pak “ deal for just ten grand more...

tjats a ten spot id spend ...

After reading unlimitedPower's post, I still haven't determined if he meant the GT was a front engined C8 or the mid engined C8. GT's traditionally have always been front engined cars. That doesn't preclude a GT mid engine but a GT front engined C8 makes more sense.

          From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A grand tourer (Italian: gran turismo) (GT) is a performance and luxury automobile capable of high speed and long-distance driving.[1] The most common format is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2arrangement. The term derives from the Italian language phrase gran turismo which became popular in the English language from the 1950s, evolving from fast touring cars and streamlined closed sports cars during the 1930s.[2]

Mclaren has a S model and a GT model of the mclaren 570 which is their very popular vehicle.

a slight variation to package equipment to meet a slightly different consumer desire.

i dont think we are looking at a rear mid engine and a front mid engine car.

none of us know but what was described as a slightly different package on one rear mid engine platform makes more sense.

And most people on these Corvette forums that believe only one configuration is moving forward have yet to rationalize the tripling of the Bowling Green Plant size (950,000 to over 3,000,000). Why would GM triple the size of the plant to still build only one configuration when the old plant did just that. In fact the old plant had a 53,807 production back in the C3 year of 1979.

Skank (et all), if we assume that unlimitedPower speaks the truth, a “true GT” is absolutely a front engine automobile. And he said that in his 3rd paragraph!

I’m not seeing what you are. Nothing I see that denotes FE.

The words “most common” describes anything which occurs over 50.1+% of the time. It does not preclude something which occurs up to 49.9% of the time. Specifically, as used by Wikipedia, a GT is most commonly a front driver, but even Wiki’s use of the words “most common” does not prevent the GT emblem from being applied to a mid-engine car, or for that matter a rear engined car.

                            Reading on in wiki...

Ergo, IMO, a Corvette FE and a Corvette ME can both be referred to as a GT.

To explain my statement above, for those that won’t give me any slack, is to say that the majority of the GT’s produced by automobile companies here to far have been of a front engine option. The statement by unlimitedPower, in suggesting a GT, was interpreted by me that in a traditional sense of the term. Hence my statement that it would be a front engine model.
