  • Will GM Reveal C8 Motor Today

We have our ace MECF reporter, [email protected] at SEMA, and while we have heard no chatter that GM will be revealing the ME’s motor today, we all remember that at the 2012 SEMA, GM chose their presentation session to revealed the C7’s LT1.

Think it is a minuscule chance we would learn anything today, but Jeff will be at GM booth again this morning, and will let us know if anything might be learned, e.g., both info and with his great pictures!

Thanks Jeff for starting our SEMA coverage yesterday here:

I dunno John, but I keep thinking there is a technical glitch that's causing more problems than anticipated. It's been awfully quiet over the last few weeks. I hope we hear something soon!

Yes, it has been super quiet (too quiet) since about mid September. However, I am not hearing anything negative, but as GM knows how important that they get it totally right when revealed, that they long ago, deliberately scheduled, an intensive ME development testing process.

Still hearing we will be getting our first customer cars the very end of next summer/early fall (the original plan), though of course nothing is ever set in stone in a GM plan until it is completed, i.e., they always reserve the right to change their production schedules (as do all OEMs).

We just have learned from Jeff that while and some other OEMs, such as Ford, have scheduled a formal presentation event, GM has not for this SEMA. Guess that answers, at a 95+% probability, that we are not going to learn/see anything about the ME’s motor at this year’s SEMA.

GM always denies everything about potential future product until the reveal, so that would mean nothing, and it would be totally consistent with their past practice, e.g., no concern !

The 2020 mid engine Corvette is coming; it is on schedule!

Highly doubt it John. I believe we won’t see that engine until reveal. This journey has been a tough one.

Jeff has reported back that he returned to the Chevy SEMA booth, and no mid engine, not even a mid engine designated motor there (though I am guessing that as usual, some regular LT1’s on display stands).

Sorry for us all — but we all knew it was a long shot for anything to be revealed at SEMA.

That's not quite what GM has said. In actuality, GM hasn't officiallyo said ANYTHING about the next Corvette. When asked, they just say they don't comment on future products. So they haven't said there is, or that there isn't, an ME coming soon.

I read that as said in almost humor. He went on to explain that GM is still not even admitting that there is a ME but seeing several of them at Nurburgring took the sting off of that statement too.

So John what do you think we will get for info now.
                      Some more sightings.
A dribble of info before LA show.
Some kind of info at LA.
                      Something else?

My best guess is that for whatever reason, GM is not going to show us anything at least until after Thanksgiving, and who knows, maybe not even until Detroit in January.

                        If even then?

I am sure GM has this well choreographed, but their schema is not one we are yet loving.

Surely if a reveal in Detroit they’d give a hint so people could plan a trip.

For sure, if GM is going to have a private reveal. However, even those of us invited to the ZR1 private reveal, just got a couple of weeks notice before the actual one night LA event.

However, GM might instead not be planning on a private reveal, and instead could doing what Ford did for the GT at NAIAS, which is nothing in advance — then a total surprise. However, with NAIAS being t5 days long, even Ford’s method gave folks 15 days to make it to Detroit.

You might be spot on in your supposition of advance notice, and with NAIAS going through January 29, 2019, maybe there would be a GM New Year’s Day announcement to the world, e.g., “come and see what you have been waiting for for 60 years, the mid engine Corvette revealed at NAIAS!” Thus giving folks four weeks to make to Detroit?

Right now, we truly, a la Sgt. Shultz of Hogan’s Heroes, “know nothin!”
