  • Options for the ME

There was a video bit about the Ford GT a plug for FORD no doubt but they showed I think 100 GTs and NONE of them were the same color or had the same stripes and stuff on them. It's hard for me to believe that those kind of options would be available for a CORVETTE any CORVETTE. I guess cost is the issue but those options would be good to have for the ME. What do you guys think?

It's a lot easier to offer that kind of customization in a hand built car. Not so easy in a mass produced one. I can imagine each GT is hand painted. If you were willing to pay $400 grand for your Corvette, I'm sure you could get a lot more customization. Heck, for a lot less than $400K you could have a high-end body shop repaint and stripe your Corvette any way you want. Pink with crystal encrusted stripes? No problem!

I think if your into that you could dish out all that cash for a Ford GT. As meyerweb stated you can have anything done to your car you want, but lets be realistic they are trying to mass produce these and offer us an affordable price point.

Shmee had an earlier video where the paint price for the GT was mentioned. Cannot remember the number now except that it was obscenely high.

A better example is VW who offer 30 custom colors (in Canada) for $CAN 3,000. That's in addition the the stock 5. Only applies to Wolfsburg Golfs though, the R and E

Well, since we know that the new Bowling Green paint shop can only do 10 colors (without major costs associated with changing out paints), I doubt we'll see 30 options, either.

I am curious how VW's paint shop is set up to do that, though.

I would be happy to get to 12 colors next year. Chuck Philippi, BGA Body Shop Manager, has confirmed the new paint shop is capable of doing twelve.

I was actually talking about the "add ons" not the basic colors. They have offered stripe packages in the past. I just see many new "super cars" (for a better description) with graphics that are painted on not just decals. I'm sure you can find someone to paint a car any way you want it. I was just asking about factory options. Yes enough$$$$ will get you anything.

Painted stripes come down to the same economic argument. Vinyl stripes are a lot faster to apply, therefore a lot cheaper. At least with vinyl it's relatively easy to offer a lot of different colors.

If I remember correctly, I watched a GT video some time ago and it had one painted orange . That video said it was 30,000.00 for the custom color.

I have to chuckle when I read this stuff about custom colors and 'bespoke' options, then flip to all the speculation about a $60K base price. Surely we're not talking about the same car..... I'm reminded of the kid at Christmas. "I want everything.... but that's all."
