It costs GM a ton of money to go through its intensive process of developing a new color for the Corvette, primarily because as Chuck Philippi, BGA Body Shop Manager has shared several times, that the paint itself, and the application of that paint onto the Corvette’s sheet molded compound body panels is very different, and more complex than painting that same color onto a metal part. Part of that cost, is it takes lots of time for GM to progressively, internally within the plant, to go through the testing, re-testing and further testing of one panel after another for color consistently.
The last official GM document we saw was that the C7's scheduled, end of production is the end of next March. Consequently, IMO the chances of GM starting to paint new Corvettes in the new color of Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic (ELB) just last week, yet stopping that color just six months later, is less than 1%.
All the above a long introduction to the probability of Elkart Lake Blue Metallic becoming a 2020mid engine Corvette colors is 99+%.
Thanks to Mike Furman, we have the following pictureson one of the earliest ELB’s arriving at a dealership, in this case three of them at Criswell Chevrolet.
And to supplement the below pictures, for the ELB’s arrived on a cloudy day, we first have some pictures of ELB on both a fender and a “frog” (yet that is what GM calls them), taken in the sunshine in April at the BASH.

Taken next to a two year old Laguna Blue.
The above pictures were taken by Mike@Criswell and me at the BASH.
Some nice things about ELK, are that this should make up for the sadness many felt when the very popular Laguna Blue ended a couple of years ago (with Admiral Blue being the sandwich in the middle of LB and ELB; that ELB is a metallic; and that unlike LB which was a tintcoat and thus an extra $995 color, ELB is a no-extra-cost, standard color.
