  • ME Reveal @ LA Auto Show

Yes? Or No? Might this be possible, and???

Do you think that due to all that have been revealed by GM in the last six weeks, e.g., the C8.R and the C8 ME customer car at the ‘Ring (where all manufacturers know there is always a group of professional media waters/reporters waiting/photo snapping/videoing), that the reveal would still be at NAIAS in mid-January — or might it be moved up to the LA Auto Show (starts on November 26th for press reveal days)?

We have a still-open poll in which we collectively voted, by believe by better than a 2 1/2 to 1 to margin, that the 2020 Corvette ME’s reveal would be at the Detroit/NAIAS auto show. However, while I voted for January in Detroit as its probable location the first day the poll opened, (August 4th), the frequency at which GM has been since publicly showing ME recently has been amazing. Our poll on when the reveal will be had/has these results — from its beginning to right now.

Let’s look back in timing of the pre-C7 reveal process and see if that helps us figure out the reveal probable time.

On October 12, 2012, GM started its formal pre-C7 reveal tease process by announcing at the Corvette Coral at the Road America/Petit LeMans Race, that the reveal of the C7 would be on 1.13.13 at the Detroit Auto Show, and that day they also showed us the “next generation Corvette’s emblem.” (Source= CorvetteBlogger). Between October 12, 2012 and the C7’s reveal, was 93 days.

Between today and the start of vehicle reveals at the Automobility LA Show. (November 26th) is 68 days.

Between today and the start of the vehicle reveals at the NAIAS show (January 14th) is 117 days.

If you might be thinking the Los Angeles show, we learned from jagamajajaran that there is a Mid-America Corvette Funfest seminar tomorrow entitled:

Seminar: The 2020 Mid-Engine "Zora" Corvette
    Dave McLellan and Friends

Might it be possible that at that seminar, one of Dave’s friends, for don’t Corvette Chief Engineers hang together, is Tadge Juechter, and could not Dave introduce Tadge at some point in the seminar, and Tadge get up and announce...

At the LA Auto Show on xxxx, we are going to reveal the next generation Corvette!

Just wondering if tomorrow we take a giant step forward, or whether we have to wait until October 13/14 at the Petit LeMans race for Tadge to make such an announcement?

I dont know... You would think that with the most important car in Corvette history they wouldn't repeat the procedure they made for the C7. So it could be at the LA auto show or it could be something different altogether. Guess we just got to wait and see...

I haven't checked the dates but I feel it will be revealed to the media in Detroit at the North American Auto Show, then be shipped immediately to Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale where Rick Hendricks will pay $1M+ to get the first one.

By the way, there have been three "001" Corvettes built on a number of occasions. One is the first CTF car (or pilot line car), the second (which has a different 'alpha' character in the VIN) designates it as the one sold for charity, and the third, which starts the normal manufacturing sequence. I'm thinking that this will be the source of a lot of confusion and speculation among the collector community 50 years from now....

Thank you tooold2race. I had no idea of the multiple VIN’s for 001.

Maybe LA but Detroit is more likely...the Corvette is the pride of GM...

Would be smarter at LA to show all the west coasters what GM is today as a rechnological leader ...but LA has really become a step child show

I learned something very intersting from Skank several months ago, that more mid engine cars are sold in Southern California than anywhere else in the world. Going to be very interesting to see how this plays out.

Well....they debuted the new (ugly) Silverado by flying it in via helicopter. I hope the reveal is epic, whenever and wherever they choose to do it...

Personally, I think they should fly it over Porsche and Ferrari headquarters just to mess with them a little...?

Would be great if they announced a reveal date tomorrow, but I still personally think that we'll be waiting until mid October (the most that would happen tomorrow in my opinion would be one more tease from GM before the announcement or maybe even an official public acknowledgement of the car). Guess we will find out really soon and I hope that I'm wrong.

The 1.13.13 C7 Reveal was epic. It was one of the top ten experiences in my life (a sentiment a couple of others who attended echo’d).

If the ME debuts at the LA Show, we will do our best to put together a special all MECH invite at a specific time and place there. We did that at the LA show last year for all members of Stingrayforums. Another BIG FUN gathering. Stay tuned.

I just talked with Mike Furman (Mike@Criswell) who integrally helped in creating last year’s event. We will have a separate thread, inviting all, when and if it is confirmed that LA will be the first public show for the ME.

Mike said he will enthusiastically be part of our organizing effort should it be LA.
