The cost of a Bugatti, a French luxury car with only three models — Veyron, Chiron and Divo — typically ranges from $1.7 million to $3 million, and its newest Divo hypercar model, which sold out in one day, has a ticket price of $5.8 million.

But getting a Bugatti serviced costs a pretty penny too: For a Veyron, the least expensive model at $1.7 million, an oil change costs $20,000 to $25,000, according to Royalty Exotic Cars. That's about the the price of a new Toyota Camry.

Royalty Exotic Cars, a luxury car specialist and rental company based in Las Vegas, uploaded a YouTube video in July showing an oil change for a Bugatti Veyron. The price? $21,000, according to CEO Houston Crosta.

"Bugatti services are so expensive because of the exclusivity of the product," Crosta tells CNBC Make It. "Only select individuals own a Bugatti and the owners tend to have one or more Bugattis."

The Veyron uses a dry-sump oiling system with 16 different drain plugs, accessible after intricately removing parts of the underbody, which takes hours. Refilling requires removing the car's grill, rear fender liners and rear deck including rear brakes, which are bigger than front brakes.

A Bugatti oil change is recommended once a year, whether the car has been driven or not, according to Crosta. These oil changes assure that the vehicle is running at it's highest output and efficiency. These services include all fluids in the vehicle and other routine maintenance.

Owning a Bugatti comes at a high price beyond an oil change. "Tires alone are currently around $38,000," Costa says. "Such an amazing piece of machinery can be expected to be expensive."

Royalty Exotic Cars rents exotic, expensive cars in the U.S, including Lamborghini, Ferrari and Bugatti. The Bugatti Veyron is available to rent for $20,000 (including taxes) for 24 hours but don't expect to throw that money for personal pleasures.

"We do not rent the Bugatti for recreational driving, but mostly for movie productions, photo shoots, trade shows and conventions," says Crosta.

I remember watching a YouTube video from a McLaren owner who had to replace the steering rack, out of warranty. $35,000
He also had to replace the battery (a lightweight lithium-ion unit): $3,000

Ouch, and one more Bugatti Veryron “maintenance note,” that there is only one place (the factory to change your unique tires), so it is literally $30,000 per tire set..., though that does include shipping to and from the factory anywhere in the world.

A new set of tires (which must be changed as a set) will cost $30,000 and after the third tire change, a new set of wheels is required to the tune of $120,000,

So if I go for a ride in my Veyron, and a hit a piece of metal and damage just one sidewall, that’s a $30,000 problem, and who know how long my Veyron would be out of service...

Excuse me John! If you can afford a six figure car, you have to be able to afford a few hundred dollar oil change without complaining.

Especially with the size of the hatch making it look rather easy to access the engine. I just watched the 20 minute video of changing the oil in a Bugatti. Woe is me!!

I suspect if you can afford, and actually WANT, a Bug, you're not terrible concerned about the cost of an oil change once a year. (I suspect most of these cars don't get more than one or two thousand miles a year.)

No one buys a Veyron as their only car. If it gets a flat, they'll just call Bugatti, have it picked up on the side of the road, and drive the Rolls or one of the Lambos until it gets back.

My first summer job out of high school, was working as a lifeguard at a country club. My “boss,” who was just a year or two older than me, showed up on day one with a brand new Jaguar XKE. Oh my. However, the next day, a Tuesday, he shows up in a second one in blue..

I asked, “Rick, is that a loaner, with your first one in the shop?”

He says, “no this is my second one, and yes, the first one is in the shop.”

Thursday or Friday of that week, he shows up in a for our five year old pickup, and says, “well, they are now both in the shop.”

And throughout that summer, there were more than occasional times when he drove his pickup to the pool. Ah yes, we all remember the repeat failures of Lucas electrical systems.

About 25 years ago, I came into ownership of a Rover TC 2000. It was a gift to me from a 90 year old man that had quit driving. I brought it home and proceeded to find out a great deal about Lucas electronics. The basic realization was very simple: don't bother with them. I sold the car shortly after.

I sure understand. I bought a brand new 1969 Triump Bonneville. Great motorcycle when the Lucas electrical system worked. I kept blowing the coils. I went though five or six on warranty, when my boss (I worked part time at the Triump dealership), said, “forget warranty claims, we are no longer going to buy you new coils.” My bike was then less than one year old, and even then a new one cost $35, and the bike had two of them.

I was ****ed. Tried to get him to get me another one at no charge, and he finally did. My bike worked great for another month, when in the middle of nowhere, it again sputtered and died on the side of a country road. The good news was that after waiting roughly a half hour each time, it would re-fire and I could get home.

A motorcyclist stopped and tried to help. He had a BSA (companion brand to the Triumph) motorcycle, and said, “forget getting Lucas coils. Go to the Honda dealer and buy their coils for their CB750. They cost $10 and you will never have another issue.” He then pointed down to his coil on his bike saying, “exactly what that one is.”

Went to the Honda dealership and bought two of their coils for $20, and that BSA owner was right, that I never had a problem with a bad coil again.
