    Recording Breaking VW Electric Race Car Conquers Pikes Peak

    Here are two videos and an article about VW’s electric racer devastating the earlier Pike Peak record. Sorry, the sound of the car, after a few minutes, starts to be as pleasant as my neighbor’s lawnmower many hours too early on a Saturday morning.

    Helicopter footage shows the full run, which beat the all-time record by a full 16 seconds. Volkswagen has posted a video of the ID R making its record-breaking run up the slopes of Pikes Peak last month. Piloted by Romain Dumas, the all-electric race car climbed the mountain in 7:57.148 minutes. The run easily destroyed the EV record and even beat the all-time record, set in 2013 by Sébastien Loeb, by a full 16 seconds. VW commissioned a helicopter to chase the ID R up Pikes Peak. At some points, the camera crew appears to struggle to keep up with the car. The German automaker will use the successful run to help promote its new ID sub-brand for electric production vehicles starting in 2020.

          My car racing watching wife and I have three times started to watch a Formula E race, and never made it past 20 minutes. It may be the wave of the future, but so far we are far from being a fan of it.
