  • GM should start selling direct like Tesla!

It's sad that in todays world, we have to fight for a good price. This is straight to the point, GM should sell direct to the consumer like Tesla. It would solve lots of issues, and give everyone a chance to gain access to the cars they really want. I know some dealers would go out of business, but if they don't stop trying to rob the consumers...GM should and will do this if they wanna continue to make money. Other OEMs have already spoken up, and said they will in fact do this in the future if things continue this way. Thoughts on buying direct?

The dealers sticking it to people should go by the wayside for sure. I understand they have to make a living - however most are purely crooks . Hopefully they get exactly what they deserve. People will sour over their nonsense markups.

You can't tar all dealerships with the same brush; some are really good and sell at OEM, recognizing the long-term PR benefit to treating their customer base fairly. As well, GM can't simply tear up its dealership contracts, nor establish overnight the required "viewing locations" (similar to Tesla) for its multitude of products. Some have speculated that with GM on the verge of making SUV "Corvettes" that will enable GM to create separate "Corvette-branded" dealerships, with more stringent rules and controls. But how to do that in the face of existing contractual arrangements, remains a mystery...

The best solution for us consumers: vote with your wallet. Don't purchase for more than OEM and don't give bad dealerships your business; now or in future.

I predict it will...supply will continue to increase and prices will fall. Hopefully then, we'll see bad dealers "weeping and gnashing their teeth" when consumers hand them their just desserts. In my city, there's now only ONE GM dealership that continues to sell ALL their GM vehicles at no more than MSRP and they get a fair number (for my area in Canada) of C8 allocations. Unfortunately I got on their C8 Z06 list late in the game, but they have my business and undying loyalty.

Have you seen one of Tesla’s service and delivery centers? They recently put one in about a half a mile from me. It is an overcrowded zoo and an eyesore.
No room inside so the employees have to park on the street creating a traffic problem. There are dumpsters full of trash and empty cardboard carton’s everywhere.
Tesla is NOT a good neighbor!

BTW, my daughter tried to order a Model Y and Tesla’s communication was virtually nonexistent. She gave up and ordered a MachE from the local Ford dealer and had a great experience. Tesla called her a couple of weeks after she got the MachE and said her car had been built. She told them to KEEP IT!

I’m not saying the century+ old dealer model is all that great, but the (Tesla) grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.
Delivery 5/4/23, Build Date 4/26/23: 2023 Z06 Coupe, Rapid Blue, 3LZ, HTO interior, AE4, SOC, E60, J57, NGA, ZYC. My other Corvette is a 1957 Fuelie restomod under construction.

I live by one, it’s not like what you state in your experience. I’ve made a purchase with them, and tons of my neighbors have as well. Easy and friendly staff.

It for sure can happen lol, maybe you don’t want it to. But it will happen at some point if GM wants it to happen, no dealer can stop them.

Agreed. You can not punish all dealers, but another solution could be that GM cuts allocations to those that mark up their trucks and cars like they are doing now.

I have a dealer I buy from, and always pay below MSRP, even on my C8. But there are tons, I mean TONS of dealers that won’t sell to you if you don’t pay over. Those are the ones that for sure should be dealt with.

You're obviously an expert at business models and have lotsa financial analysis clearly showing a direct sale to consumers helps GM and its customers. l understand Tesla's business model just to lessen some diatribe.

Where is the one near you?

BTW, I was a fan of Tesla until my daughter’s bad experience and the blight they put on my neighborhood.

                        Hello,

I have purchased 4 Corvettes from my same dealer; at least 6 other vehicles, as well.
Never paid more than MSRP for any of them; my last was a 2023 Red Mist like yours.

Perhaps you need to cultivate a long term relationship with a great dealer. I don't think
GM will ever go the Tesla dealer route.

Not trying to one up you, but I am number 5 on my dealer's ERAY wait list. That only
                        comes from a long relationship.

😂 I have a great relationship with my dealer, this is my 4th car with them. I’m speaking in general for consumers, not just me. Read my post above, I’ve never paid over MSRP.
