George Maharis Of TV’s Route 66 Died

Sad to report. RIP. He was 94 years of age. Who among us who were around then did not love that show. George is in the background of this picture.

Media like that and "Easy Rider" and "On Any Sunday" actually were culturally significant.......a change from Annette Funicello and Pat Boone and Ozzy and Harriet..... things were a changing.....young people....especially boys.....were hitting the road to paraphrase Jack Keourac....

And the driver in that photo, if memory serves correctly, was also in a later TV series called Adam-12 as Officer Pete Malloy (Martin Milner).

"Route 66" theme song was and still is my favorite! Have it as an mp3 on a thumb drive and play it occasionally while driving top down in our C8 HTC!

I hate to say this but whose driving with the top down to go skiing? (With snow on the ground in the background no less) maybe it’s just because I’m in the northeast it’s freaking cold during ski season. And in the second shot just before they walk into the diner where did their skis go that were on the back of their car. All there luggage is still on the trunk but the skis disappeared.

got to love television.

that was a great video to watch truly a different time in American history.

I watched it today and it was great. For some reason I thought their corvette was red but in the early shows I believe it was silver.

Id love to see the show where the corvette manages to change color from red to silver…

how did they explain that one?

what did they do get it painted? (Kidding)

anybody remember that episode?

or am I mistaken wand was their corvette always silver even in later years?

pretty cool to have been able to live to 94 years old!

Sorry to hear about the death of George Maharis. I was about 10 years old when that show was on TV, it actually started my love for the Corvette. When I was 19, I bought a new “67” convertible for $4,100. I am now on my 7th Corvette and have never lost that special feeling for America’s only true Sportscar. RIP George and Martin.

I never watched it much. Other than the Corvette, the show to me was about a couple of guys who, every week, got involved with strangers with messed up life problems, and tried to help them in some way. A later copycat format show was something called (I think) Then Came Bronson, which involved one guy with a motorcycle.

Television and other entities often take artistic license for a particular video shot or feeling to the scene. Obviously they left their skies at the lodge before heading out for some lunch!. Check-in at their hotel was at 3:00!. See you can make up your own mind about that kind of stuff..
