  • C9 Corvette Look Like This GM Design Sketch?

In my eye, the hood shape that the author refers to is obviously a Stingray.

What would you say if the C9 Corvette Looks Like This GM Design Sketch?

This intriguing mid-engined supercar has been imagined by a GM designer with a split windshield.

While it may only seem like yesterday since the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette was introduced to much fanfare, it’s actually been four years since it was first showcased and development of its successor is no doubt underway. Could it look a little like this?

The striking sketch was created by Dylan Schmidt, a Creative Designer at General Motors Advanced Design studio, and was recently shared on the GM Design Instagram page. The sketch depicts a captivating mid-engined supercar that takes the design cues of the C8 Corvette and catapults them into a futuristic realm. It’s radical, bold, and extremely eye-catching.

The front end of the car in this sketch has a pronounced front splitter as well as sharp LED headlights neatly incorporated into the bodywork. The hood then takes on a particularly aggressive shape and includes an element that protrudes over the windshield, giving it an interesting split design and definitely adding to the futuristic shape. We’re not sure how practical such a design would be for production but it would definitely make the car stand out from its rivals. What Would You Say If The C9 Corvette Looked Like This GM Design Sketch? GM Design
Elsewhere, you’ll notice that the supercar has sharp wing mirrors and flared rear wheel arches. It also appears that the rear track of the car is significantly wider than the front but this could be due to the perspective of the sketch. Unfortunately, GM designer Dylan Schmidt who created this sketch hasn’t shown what it could look like from the rear.

I like it, very aggressive stance with a low and widebody look. That to me, is a good progression from C8 to C9. It doesn't really show where the air intake will be and with the design element on the roof, will we see an intake duct there?

Split windshield will likely never happen. It needs more fleshing out. Kinda cool but doesn't really trip my trigger.

        Not if it's a BEV.

That's what I thought too. But then I recall GM saying they're developing another V8 in a new factory and it's not certain that the C9 is going to be an EV.

I guess they'll keep us hypothesizing for the few years. LOL. Either way EV or ICE, the shape is nice.

That is a very interesting design and it is, clearly, rudimentary. None of the details are on the rendering. I have to guess this is how they start the process of deciding which direction to go in with a design. Still, it's not bad looking at all.

The openings in front may be purely aerodynamic. With no other openings in the sides for cooling in may well be BEV. We’ll know eventually.

The C9 will be an all electric Corvette. It might however be build in another factory while at least the IMO in its first few years the C8 ICE continues to be built at BGA. Maybe through 2033 or so?

I believe the chances its rear windshield being split for the C9 are good. Why? For one reason and that will blow through the resistance of more than a few to converting to an EV Corvette. And it will look so cool. And if it is, there will be for the first time in our life a second Corvette. Nice daily driver for us. Expect it to have a +400 mile range. Already started a special savings fund for it so by the time it arrives (2028, 2029 or 2030), we will have it fully saved for.

I like it but the front seem kinda' long for the car based on todays design trends. I'm also of the opinion that GM is not going to release a sketch at this time that previews their new design direction. My guess is that, even though it's good lookin', it may have been something that ended up on the floor....

                      Pretty car. Thanks for posting.

What's with the love affair with the high belt line? Why hide the driver in a dark room with cameras and screens? National security?

If all that 'ambiguous material' above the belt line, and behind the driver is transparent then it might be a good start. If it is opaque, then it is a bad start.

A good design starts with what the driver can see from the inside, not what pedestrians see from the outside.

A split rear window can be virtual rather than physical. For example: A color change variation running down the middle. I hope there is more flexibility of options than just an opaque, 1950s style, physical obstruction in the back window.

Just My opinion. I know absolutely nothing about the expertise of design.

Good point. BEVs are more cabin-forward in styling, just like the C8 is.

No point of that long hood if there is no ICE in there. Batteries would be more mid-mounted, aft of the front axel and forward of the rear axle, if packaging-possible.

I like it and I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

im sure it’s just an early rendering etc yet it’s looks smooth and sleek! (Edit: whose cleaning that windshield? I’m out! )

                          Electrics are insane!

With rear view camera's being utilized why not a rear split window? I'm saving for it too and have been on a list since 1/4/21!

I don't know what the C9 will look like but no matter what, if I'm still alive and semi-well, I will have her. I'll end my Corvette never selling and car buying experience with a C7 Grand Sport, a C8 E-Ray HTC, and a C9 X... 😎
