  • $240K McLaren Impounded Ten Minutes After Purchase

That sure was an expensive ten minutes of ownership, for the driver was doing 99 MPH in a 56 mile per hour zone. However, he was released after payment of a $368 fine, but the car will remain impounded for the next week. Wonder if the driver learned a lesson.

A 39-year-old driver in West Vancouver enjoyed his new McLaren supercar for a total of 10 minutes before it was impounded by police. A traffic patrol spotted the 2019 McLaren 600LT speeding westbound on Highway 1 shortly after 10 p.m. on June 17. The high-end vehicle’s speed was clocked at more than 99 miles per hour in a 56 miles per hour zone, police said.

Provided by Associated Newspapers Limited West Vancouver police said: 'The driver had mentioned this vehicle was new to them and they had been driving it for no more than 10 minutes prior to being stopped'

The driver from Coquitlam told police that he had just left the car dealership a few minutes earlier. His new ride retails for around US$240,000.

'The driver had mentioned this vehicle was new to them and they had been driving it for no more than 10 minutes prior to being stopped by police,' Constable Kevin Goodmurphy of West Vancouver Police told CityNews.

The car was towed and impounded for seven days.

'Anytime anybody chooses to speed excessively it puts everyone at risk on the road, including the driver and everyone around them. These types of speeds are very dangerous,' Goodmurphy said.

The driver was also issued a $368 violation ticket, a fact that drew ire from Twitter use

I can fully understand wanting to put the pedal to the metal in a brand new McLaren. That's why tracks exist though.

I wonder if the Mounties are driving that McLaren around while it is impounded. I sure hope that guy gets his Car back unscathed , but I doubt it

You can't fix stupid! These cars, including the ones I own, should NEVER be run up to their capabilities on public streets...unlike to 60's, they're simply too dangerous today in almost all locations. Wildlife, alcohol, distracted drivers, pot holes, drug use; and the list goes on. Agree with Bluevette, tracks are the only safe place.

It appears the owner was not a believer in the "gentle break in" school of new car ownership.

The McLaren will be flat towed to the impound yet, and there it will sit until the owner bails it out seven days from now.

Question: The C8 that visited the Corvette Museum. What speeds did it hit leaving the Museum lot as it roared away, to the delight of all!

Well. There is a probability reality.
              A 39 year old,
a car that reaches 99MPH in 6 seconds.
              Brand 10 minutes new.
              55 limit.

Say there is a sample of 1000 39 year olds in the same circumstance. Some percentage will do 99MPH within 10 long minutes. (even in a 55).

The car will do 0-100-0 in 12-13 seconds. They will think to do it and slow before anyone notices.

              20 year olds?
              25 year olds?
              30, 35,
              Magic 39 year olds?

              40s?
              50s?
              60s?
              Us....? ................. Zero %

percentage goes down as the age goes up? Maybe.

              Girls?
              Women?
              Ladies?
              CowGirls?

Bet he did 100 leaving the dealer's lot!
When he gets his car back , I'll look for it on uTube. Surely he documented this one.

I sure hope so John. I had a Porsche impounded when I was in college for a parking violation. When I picked it up the next day it had serious damage and had been driven by " THE IMPOUND YARD" a junkyard that took no responsibility for their actions. I will bet that McLaren ownere is losing sleep till he gets his car back. I wcertainly would.
