  • Excellent insightful autoline after hours show today on corvettes, camaros

i called in the show to discuss freefall or soft lamding in 2020 and 2021 but this show also included discussion on camaro future nd even tidbits on the c8 powertrain and the future of camaro platform

Thanks JB. I watched about half of it, but didn’t yet get to C8 tidbits. Might you please share some of that info?

SAAR expectations at around 56 minutes...then it goes into camaro ..

there is some discreat conversation of hybrid powertrains ..there is expectations by merrill lynch that the SAAR will drop from 16.7 million units to 14 million which will be catastrophic for the industry...thats why you are seeing a tightening up by the big three..

James martin the guest from IHS sees the SAAR relatively stable at 16.6 to 16.4 ..

he also is retired from Gm , owns a camaro SS and is a big gearhead..

he feels and explains from 56 minutes onward about the future of camaro and GM s perspective on hybridation or continuation on the alpha 2 platform and that gm has not made any decision whatso ever on which direction camaro will go.

there is discussion also of mustang gaining 25 percent of its sales from having a right hand drive available abroad...and of course John McElroy discusses camaros need for such flexibility.

there does seem to be a moment where hybridation of the suoer c8 will beat ford to the punch with electrification for performance application but he quickly pivots to porsche as the one who beats ford with the mustang..

i believe he stopped himself before leaking and quickly diverted to ford...

there is some doscussion of the c8 moving upmarket leaving a slot for another front engine performance vehicle and I got the feeling it was either a
pha 2 for the camaro or could in fact be the place holder for the front engine corvette

i happen to enjoy industry discussion..but for those more focused...tune in around 56 minutes and beyond...

Thanks JB I tried to watch the video but speculating on the C8 is tiring enough and to watch a very boring video predicting production numbers down the road made me yawn.
I do believe a recession is looming according to predicted production numbers and GM has to know to have sales where they want them for the C8 the pricing will have to be right.
Waiting a year or two on the C8 for some may be a smart move. In a recession sales on C8s will drop and there will be incentives.

Its been interesting to watch as the pundits keep stating the OEM s are preparing for a twenty percent drop in SAAR.

im sorry if anyone found the show less than thrilling. Im a gearhead for too many decades as I find autoline one of my

i like John McElroy and his various shows.

please excuse my enthusiasm towards a show that so many would find lacking in excitement.

I've been watching John s shows for many many years..had dinner with him in NY as well...

I could delete the thread yet maybe someone will find it interesting..?

i dont know what Ill end up doing...with regards to the purchase date of a c8...first or second but if the SAAR slams downward a year after introduction incentives will follow...which happened a year after the last tine I purchased a new corvette. Merrill is predicting a twenty percent drop to a 14 million SAAR in 2020/2021...but *** do they know...IHS says soft landing to 16.4 and then arebound up to the net profits just announced and the dropping hard again next period...

the contraction by major automakers as they prepare hopefully is them just being overly cautious...

i know the last one stung hard so its probably just them being overly cautious...still its something to be aware of...

as far as the camaro rumor rampant in the news 7th gen...was nonsense..

the camaro news that it was going to be cancelled yesterday was as stated on the show probably a supplier asking question and then the speculation started...

camaro is on alpha one and not moving just yet to alpha two which is the ct4 and the ct5

gm just extended their decision making process and no where did they say the camaro 7 th gen is dead...

the show did interestingly enough leave an impression on me that possibly those dreaming of a front engine corvette like product is one possibility more so like an alpha based example with two plus two seating and a possible hybridization to squeak past fuel economy standards for wheelbase and footprint standards...

i think the trucks will run it too and there is a performance advantage ...

only downside is continual rising prices to negate any fuel savings to the consumer...

          this is getting ridiculous already....

          plenty of fuel...
