  • Still want a new ZR-1? GM's giving you another chance.

    http://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/06/2019-corvette-zr1-production-extended-by-50-cars/

Production of the C7 Corvette will extend into July and General Motors has approved an additional 50 examples of the 2019 Corvette ZR1 for production.

According to Corvette Blogger, Chevrolet extended the production run for the 2019 Corvette ZR1 by 50 cars recently, giving some dealers additional allocation. Not surprisingly, these will be some of the last C7 Corvettes ever built, with one dealer-ordered example having a target production week of July 22, 2019 – after the debut of the mid engine Corvette C8 on July 18.

It is not yet clear how many examples of the 2019 Corvette ZR1 GM initially planned on producing.

As was reported previously, the final date for customer orders of the C7 Corvette Coupe was on June 17, while order books for the C7 Corvette Convertible closed on June 6. GM is technically accepting dealer orders up until June 23, although it was reported that few dealerships would have C7 Corvette allocation left by this time.

There is still a relatively large inventory of 2018 and 2019 model year C7 Corvettes sitting on Chevrolet dealer lots around the country. Last we checked, GM had a 98-day supply of the vehicle in the US, which equates to just over 7,000 cars.

Production of the Corvette C8 is expected to begin at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky after a 10-week closure to retool the factory once C7 production ends. When the C8 begins rolling off the line, GM is expecting there to be fewer than 2,500 units of the C7 Corvette left in stock in the US, equivalent to a 35-day supply.

The last C7 Corvette to roll off the Bowling Green production line will be black Z06 coupe 3LZ with an Adrenaline Red interior, Z07 package and seven-speed manual transmission. The rights to the car will be auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson this month, as it won’t be built until late July or early August.

I think we may see a surge in interest in the C7s. If GM does not have the C8 out till Feb 2020 and at reveal the mid engine may turn off some. The current C7 inventory may not be adequate to carry dealers over. With a 98 day supply and 240 days till the C8 hits the dealers and the die hard front engine folks that may be turned off at reveal. The last C7s may become very desirable. I have a pre Order deposit with MacMulkin on the 202 and may keep my 2019 C7 as well

I guess I'm a skeptic but I've NEVER seen the last of a Corvette series increase in 'market' value after a new generation goes into production..... and that dates back to the 1962 - 1963 model year transition. I'm not saying that at some point in time (likely well after I'm lookin' down with Zora and a few others from the clouds) that the value of the last C7's won't go up. What I am suggesting is that it will be a few decades..... and that goes for the ZR1's too.

      Sorry for the pessimism....

They are building another 50 ZR1s to get rid of inventoried parts. The ZR1 sales are slow. It's a great car BUT, few buyers and I have watched dealers give some away at below sticker. Some considerably below.

True and yet at other dealers who had a lot of ZR1 allocation but who had more buyers on their pre-purchase lists than they had allocations, they still have buyers on those lists who could not get their ZR1 allocation picked up — and these 50 “new” ZR1’s thus are being allocated to those specific customers on waiting lists.

I know of two specific such buyers who had recently given up on their eve getting their new, custom ordered ZR1 picked up by GM, but now, as a result of these last 50 cars, have ear to ear grins as a result of this news.

Also the reason why some, separate dealers have not sold their ZR1’s, some dealers are still not budging from “market adjustment.” In the end, these “new” 50 and those who are not sold now at dealers will work out to a perfect balance of “all have been sold.” They will still net happy buyers and dealers will still make a good profit on them, e.g., a ZR1 could be sold at $5K below sticker, yet still have over $10K dealer profit within it.

The ZR1 story will have a happy ending for nearly all.

Yes, there are currently dealerships that are honoring the $3,000 Corvette loyalty discount. A friend just bought his new ZR1 for $5,000 off MSRP here in Oklahoma.

OH, much below sticker. I had the opportunity to buy one ZR1 3ZR Convertible from a little tiny dealer on Ebay for way under sticker. The dealer had the car on ebay with a no reserve , ( a mistake for the dealer) and when it only bidded to $129,500 and some change the dealer reneged I contacted the dealer and he told me what the price was after in the second auction the car only hit $126,000. A very small dealer with a two Corvette inventory that bought the car for himself and decided he didn't want it. He actually had the car in a Barn in the middle of a little town in Florida. With 5 miles on it. I guess you could call it a Barn Find. And I am sure there will be plenty of those down the road. I went to show where there was two both owned by gentleman above 70 years old and most likely catching dust in the garage. I wonder what their wives will let these go for in a few years. The C8 announcement killed ZR1 sales.
