Quick tour of Shelby American, Inc

I had an opportunity to visit Shelby American, Inc., including going through their factory. I did not realize that they were a full blown OEM, manufacturing both Shelby cars and trucks. Another surprise was that while in the past 80% of their business was cars, now it is 80% trucks (which they primarily do in another facility). On the floor they had the Shelby GT, Super Snake, Shelby F-150 Super Snake truck, Shelby F-150 and F-150 Raptor. In their factory, while certainly small by the 'big three' standards, they had everything from a paint shop, to upholstery, to fiberglass build up, etc. Everything in their factory was already sold, while much of what was in their tightly packed show room was for sale. Vince Laviolette explained a number of their projects and how they test and refine, for example, the cooling systems, aerodynamics, etc., both on the track at Las Vegas Motor SpeedWay and on the road and in the desert surrounding Las Vegas.

I also had a couple of mini-hot laps with Gary Patterson, their President. All in all a great time.

Cool photos shelby always creates great variations of the mustang...

expensive but good..

i spotted a bullet mustang in green at the club today. Looked very nice although even that is about 48 grand..

it does have 480 hp though which is more than the camaro ss and the corvette stingray.

what Im actually surprised about is how strong the supra is with only 335 hp at 3400 lbs..

i wonder if the pressed cars got a little tune for the launch..

i look forward to your photographic skills on that weird vehicle...

has lots of curves and angles....supposedly it looks much better in real life..

i wonder if you with your excellent phtographic skills can capture the essense of the vehicle..

like I mentioned suposedly the reviewers at the toyota launch all said it looks good in person...meanwhile many look at the photos so far and are not quite as impressed..l

i think they land at toyota dealers in July...might make an interesting effort if you are so inclined..

Thanks JB. I'll keep in mind the Supra getting to the dealers in July, though my schedule is pretty packed from the end of July through end of September at this point. It would certainly be fun to try a shoot.
