  • Porsche 992’s Pricing, Looks, Options and More

Just for grins, I started to price for me a hypothetical 992, 2020 Porsche. Only the Carrera and the Carrera 4S will be first available. Those models give you 443 HP and 391 TQ.
Without exaggeration, no sarcasm, and with admiration, I think Porsche builds an outstanding car. It is exceptionally well made, with superb assembly craftsmanship and with #1+ engineering.

Here is what is looks like in Porsche’s official pictures:

However, my glowing, proceeding recommendation comes with two major exceptions. For me, they are both epic fails, but maybe not in your opinion:

    1. Looks: It is far from attractive in my opinion. However, my gear head wife’s description of its looks would be banned from this forum, so I guess in our family’s opinion, to split the difference, it is not a car we would aesthetically own, e.g., my giving it a C and her giving it a D-.

    2. Price: Give this car a flat out “F” in our book.

I just built one at this site:

    https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...-configurator/

Back to pricing, I left out a ton of options, including the custom paint option that can exceed $11,000, skipped the $7,300 AWD (“S” model), went past the $5,560 Burmester sound system, did not check the $3,270 LED matrix headlights, and did not want $2,000 glass sunroof. In addition to those I do not want, especially at those prices, I still left out many more options I wanted to purchase had I won the lottery.

Care to guess what price I got to???

And again for a car with 443 HP, and just 391 TQ...

I exceeded $154,000 — again leaving off a bunch of options I wanted.

No thanks, but lets back up this bus to get back to the overriding reason even more important than price, and that is neither my wife nor me can not get past its looks.

For those however, who lust after its looks, and can cope with such pricing, you might enjoy its price configurator linked above.

I will happily select most of the options for my 2020 entry C8, and still have an extra $50,000 left over which will go in the bank — as initial savings for our C8 Z06.

Personally, I think the bang for the buck in the Porsche world is the Cayman S or GTS. Not sure on the new 718 as I have not driven one, but the previous Cayman S is one heck of an automobile. Looks great too!

I agree that does look better than the 911 IMO. I “built and priced” one the way I would want, and with also leaving some options unchecked, I was over $100,000. Backed out at that time.

Also I am a Corvette person.

The price of every make of car influences the price of every other make. The closest neighbors are more influential. Corvettes closest are skyrocket priced Porsche]?] NSX[?].

All you have to do is price one to see why Porsche is one of the most profitable car companies in the world.

Wild pricing and rumor is the cayman boster is moving prodiction to a new site since the 911 needs more prodiction capacity to meet demand.

congratulations to porsche on the 911 success...

rumor is the boxster cayman will nit be getting a kid cycle refresh as it moves its pridiction elsewhere...

might be the end of the boxster which I believe starts at 60 grand...and runs up around 90 grand.....

people dont seem to gravate towards the 718

I believe and this is just my opinion, the new 718 is its own demise. For me the allure on caymans 14 and up was looks and you got the silky smooth 6cylinder. In some versions you even got the 911 engine but in a de-tuned format. Tuning is an easy fix, making a very affordable and fun Porsche that was more exotic looking than it’s price tag.

the 718 still looks good but something is off... I can’t put my finger on it and feel like something is missing that the cayman had... Like it’s soul maybe?

More than a few agree with you that the 718’s 4 cyclinder is not cutting it to them. While technically just fine, driving it lacks passion in their opinion also.

I agree 718 styling fell from the previous generation 981. The rear end styling with all the scripts saying porsche seems tacky ...the side scoop also became awkward with its black trim.

the pricing is 60 to 100 grand...thats a huge pass for the little four cylinder...

i was at alfa today getting the oil changed in my stelvio and they were pushing real hard to fet me into a a
fa 4c...i just laughed but oricing was way below the cayman...
