    this is not that rare an occurance with many fine german engineered high performance engines,,

    a hundred thosuand miles is not that many for those of us who daily drive our sports car...

    if i were to get a repair bill lime that on a hundred thousand mile vehicle Id just about pass out...

    im sorry im such a cheap son of a B....

    i cant help it...because when I see the repair bill i almost fall out of my chair...

    My non Corvette is a 2013 BMW X5 with a twin turbo 6 cylinder diesel engine. Other available engine options were a turbocharged 6 cylinder gas, and a "hot vee" twin turbo gas V8. The six cylinder engines are considered near bulletproof. The V8 is notoriously troublesome, with oil leaks, component failures, and a bunch of other reliability issues. To the point where knowledgeable shoppers for a used X5 avoid the V8, So when I heard the upgrade engines for the C8 were likely to be hot vee V8 engines, my initial thought was, stick with the LT1 based engine.

      I've said a coupla times that I'm fine with the tried and proven Lt1 in the C8. I'm sure It will have plenty of horsepower for me. With all the changes that go into shifting to an ME, I would find it comforting knowing the engine has already been sufficiently around the block.

        Its not like 500 hp is a low rating..l

        ill happily take a reliable and low cost 500 hp over say an exotic 563 hp from mclarens awesome twin turbo 3.9 liter v8..

        as cool as the mclaren is...i dont want to logically pay the four grand a year for extended warranty coverage after the original warranty expires and anything on that mclaren goes boom..

        ill take a durable 500 ponies anyday of the week...

        im sure GMs twin turbo v8 in future c8 models will be ultra reliable and durable..unlike the foreign car twin turbo v8s..that last just past warranty before needing a major service..

        its a design durability difference between gm and the germans...

        the germans are excellent during the warranty period but after that their engineers dont care whereas gm does that 300k mile durability validation process so they could offer a 5 year /100k mile warranty knowing upfront theor potiential downside costs..

        the warranty coverage shifted a few years back...but the validation process has stayed intact ..

        which is another reason I dig corvettes and prefer to own gm products when i can...

        i think over the years i dropped 300 grand buying gm cars... and thats before individual cars cost over a hundred grand..

          For the second, high performance version ME, I would want a 32V, DOHC, TT, V8 producing around 700 HP, 600 TQ.
          Excited owners of a 2015 Z06. Lifetime, annual contributors, and 20 year members of NCM. A ME C8 Corvette is coming next.

            That's my thought exactly. Stick with the LT1 Based Engine.

              Exactly! The LT1 is good for the base car but the performance version will need to have the snarl! The LT4 cannot be made to snarl it can be made to sound like an old school hot rod along with the shake. I know because I have one.

                With gm s 300k mile validation process I believe we can rest easily knowing the ttv8 will be excellent

                congrats to those who spend the coin....


                considering the 2.7 liter four is the base engine in the silverado there is a good chance it wont be a 57 thousand dollar replacement engine like the amg rebuild shown in this link...

                i dint see how people are expected to drop that kind of coin for an old cars engine revuild...the vehicle isnt worth 57 grand but the dealer service department proposed bill was...

                gets crazy with those german cars hot rod division.,,

                at least gm s crate motorcosts are reasonable for the hp they deliver.

                  Nothing wrong with a mid engine sports car with a push rod V8. Plenty good enough for Bruce McLaren 50 years ago when he and Dennis Hulme were dominating the Can Am series. And those cars sounded great.

                    Milliwatt, I totally agree that the good ole push told, OHV, Chevy V8, continually upgraded, is a great motor for the C7; it will continue to be the entry motor, further upgraded, for the C8.

                    I will be happy to own one.

                      The Chevy small block push rod engines with the longer stroke of 4+ inches are the more reliable and Chevy tends not to shorten the stroke to less than that , about 4"and the reliability is up, with the lower RPM revving, but the RPM is kept down to 6000/6500. But the C6 ZO6 had a slighter shorter stroke and therefore reved to about 7000 RPM. Had a better sound too. A really great sound. Seems like in the earlier days there were small block Chevy engines that had 3.5 inch stroke and raved to 8K and were reliable. Who known. Hopefully Corvette can come up with really great valve springs to keep a 8K RPM small block engine on cam and offer it in the ME. Higher RPM would make a more urgent sound and more HP over and at the expense of a little torque. If the ME has a small block that can really sing at a higher RPM and be reliable, then that would set it apart. 8K RPM or anywhere close to it. Surely they have at least thought about it, shorter stroke and higher RMP and sound.

                      A longer stroke is like a longer arm on a lever. It gives more power per stroke but takes proportionately more time to go up and down. A shorter lever arm can be pumped up and down faster because it is less distance but makes less power per stroke. The engine works the same. Shorter faster higher speed of the stroke with proportionately less power per stroke vs. longer, more powerful and slower stroke.

                      They can increase the diameter of the bore to up the power and maintain the same displacement .
