    Nurburgring Record Massively Shattered

    This was an amazing record performance feat, shattering the old ‘Ring record in just 5 minutes, 19 seconds.

    Porsche’s World Endurance Championship farewell tour has finally hit the Nurburgring with its 919 Evo and destroyed the previous record. The modified LMP1 car, with Timo Bernhardt the wheel, lapped the ‘Ring in 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds. That’s 51.58 seconds faster than Stefan Bellof’s previous Nurburgring record in a Porsche 956 C.

    Porsche stripped away all of the constraints from its former body, added some power and removed some weight to set lap records at major racetracks around the world. It was only a matter of time before the 919 lapped the ‘Ring and reset the record, but no one expected it to be nearly a minute faster.

              Kudos to the car. Special kudos to the driver. And no, I would not have wanted to be a passenger on that ride.

                  Impressive, to say the least. Speeds topped-out at around 230MPH on the last straight.

                  This record is likely to stand for a while... probably 1.5 to 2 years, when GM gets the opportunity to stretch the legs of the ME C8.
