If the Tesla were even a 1.5 second, 0-to-60 car, not for me.

This isn't really surprising. Electric motors make maximum torque at 0 rpm. And that version has two motors and all-wheel drive.

There is, however, more to a car than 1/4 mile times.

You are correct meyerweb, and Tesla fails in the “exhaust music category” for me also. I admire it for others, just not for me.

Tesla did a great job of motivating many OEM’s to further develop their electric car programs. I give them credit for that. However, the jury has not even been convened as far as Tesla’s long term viability.
Enjoying my Shadow gray C8. What a car it is.

I just thought you performance car enthusiasts would enjoy the news of this video...

long term viability notwithstanding...tesla knocked the bmw 3 series off in unit sales in the USA...plus the model 3 performance model out accelerates time and time against the bmw M3.

Forget about ice and electric cars, I’m waiting for Popular Science to write an article about an Electric Flying Car.

(Tesla) Great car if your going to dump it in 4 years. Average battery pack 15K out of warranty. Rewinding Electric Motors with new commutator bars and brushes and bearings and labor. $$$$. Collapse of our already Fragile Grid and replacing Transformers with Mega Transformers and Running Larger Copper Lines Across the Globe Plus all that Power has to Be Produced. Here goes another Nuclear Powerplant Meltdown. Ask a Tesla Owner if they would like a Nuclear Powerplant built in their neighborhood to power all their electric cars. -- Billions and Billions of $$$$ --- I call Complete BS. Mining for the Metals for battery packs while they are degrading just sitting there. UGHHhhhhh
LET the Electric Car Manufacturers Pay for Grid Upgrades-- I Do Not Want An Electric Car!!! Tesla is going to tank, they have to pay for all the electric for the warranty and maintenance on the vehicles, and they have very few service stations, and people are shorting the batteries just before warranty end. They are in trouble.

                      clean coal? Kidding ..

guys im not a greenie and im not an expert in our aging electrical grid that no matter needs to be ugraded and updated.

im pretty much focusing on the automotive aspect that for what seems like many many years , cadillac, infiniti, mercedes, acrua, Lincoln amd even more recently alfa romeo , have tried to take down bmw s venerable 3series and that includes the bmw M3...

A fine vehicle by any stretch of the imagation.

whats more the M3 has been upsurped as the performance sedan icon with an excellent performance capability..

teslas model 3 outsold the bmw 3series in the USA.

the performance version of the model 3si ply outperforms the acceleration capability of the M3 handidly.

these two facts are quite astonshing.

Corvette will soon become a hybrid E-ray. How long after that before Corvette becomes all-electric with better performance and all-wheel drive to boot? Genovation is building an 800 HP electric C8. The market is moving, albeit slowly at this time towards electric vehicles, Corvette included. The motors and electronic controllers are already here from a technology perspective. It's now a matter of battery/fuel cell technology, and companies worldwide are investing in battery R&D to support this transition. We call it exhaust rumble, our grand kids will call it noise.

Well reasoned! Thankfully my gear head wife agrees that if we ever get to the point where we can not cope with the Corvette’s next generation, we need to get two of the last year of this generation, drive one, have the other one as a “within one of those climate controlled bubbles, the latter saved for the future when our current one dies of old age.

After 53 manual trans vehicle in a row (including her DD — for she refuses to drive anything but a manual), we are going to keep our two DD manual trans cars, but leap into the unknown and get a DCT next year, but beyond that massive leap, we don’t know how many more of those we will be doing.

We need our V8 exhaust music!!!

John - I'm an engineer so I cant help but work this math.
If you're 55 and you started your Corvette buying at 21, you have bought 53/(55-21) = 1.6 Corvettes/year! I may be off on either end, but wow, man! I'm pretty sure I haven't owned that many Hot Wheels!
