Cool. In the traditional manned refueling tankers, the tanker has an operator who steers the drogue. I wonder if the drone has any automated control system for that, or if it's totally up to the fighter pilot to line it up.

Not only do you increase fuel capacity by removing the pilot(s), it is a stealthy aircraft to boot.

Next up is the Loyal Wingman autonomous vehicle concept demonstration:

According to an October report from the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, low-cost, attritable aircraft “could extend the effective sensor range and kill radius of F-22s, F-35As, and [Next-Generation Air Dominance assets], allowing smaller numbers to cover larger areas of the battlespace and kill more threats per sortie.”

Thanks Jeff. I had an opportunity to ride aboard a KC135 while it was refueling F 15s off the coast of MA. I got to lay in the observers position just next to the refueling operator with a terrific view of the connection, fueling and release of the F15s. Great experience!

Several years ago, I also had the opportunity to ride in a KC-135 and take pictures of the refueling process while laying next to the operator. It was an amazing experience.
