Why I don't use my Corvette as a daily driver

Oh yeah,,,mine is a daily driver with the following caveats!

    1) I work out of my house so have no daily commute to work.
    2) If I go to the airports for work travel I take a car service.
    3) I live in a place with a winter, and I have a z51 with the summer tires, so don’t drive it under 40 degrees outside.
    4) Don’t REALLY like to drive in the rain, but not a showstopper.
    5) If I go to pick up anything of any size, won’t work for that, so use the wife’s SUV.
    6) If there is more than just me, or me and wife, it won’t work since only holds 2 people.

Other than that, I drive it all the time!!! :-) All that adds up to less than 4,000 miles in 3 years. Mostly back and forth to the club to play golf! LOL!

I have 6 cars including the new wife's to be car. She likes hers because she is very outdoors and doesn't want to have to worry about the car. I found out when I bought her a new car she said we didn't discuss this and can you take it back. For me I drive my two trucks in winter weather. Too much gravel on the road esp this winter. Pretty much drive my work truck which it the same as my other truck but 3 years older I which save it for good. Then the two C7Z's which trade off daily duties in nice weather. I also have a 63 Meter w/ 70k miles all original down the the hubcaps and washer bag.

Sounds awesome to have so many vehicles as it does to have so much room to park all of them. I remember you showed us a photo of your new home being built. Do you have any updated photos for us to enjoy? If so post them up. I know I’d enjoy seeing the beautiful views that I vaguely remember from the last time. If I remember you can’t even see a neighbors home from your property. That’s so cool.

You’re living large. Life is good my friend and congratulations on the wonderful lady in your life. She sounds very special.

Except that could have happened the one day you took it out your Corvette in last 2 years!

A ship in the harbor is safe. But that's not what ships are built for. Life is short and cars are material objects. I drove my 991 as much as I could. While I parked in good spots and walked a bit if needed, I drove is 4 seasons a year and if it got crumpled I would have thanked it for its service and got something else. You can't take it with you.

When you venture out of the harbor for a pleasure cruise, you check the weather and avoid places like the iceberg field that Titanic decided to race through.

While I get that, and aren't advocating taking it out in a hurricane or blizzard, I'm referring to the "bubble wrap it!" mentality of hardly ever driving it. The "never drive it in the rain" folks I just don't get.

What few "long term" reviews that are out there (highest I've seen is a 40K mile review) all say its a great car to "live with" 4 seasons a year with only minor common sense caveats.

And hey, we all want Chevy to make this model and future models as well as can be, right? What better way to do that than to at least make sure every copy sold maxes out its warranty?

I know someone who was so fraught when the round tail lights went away, he bought one of the last C6's and mothballed it under 100 miles. Thinks he's sitting on a winning lotto ticket one day. Meanwhile its out of warranty now, gas went bad, battery died, tires getting a little sus, he's paying insurance and taxes every year, plus climate controlled storage. That thing should be rolling past 100K miles right now. Sigh.

These cars are nice. Really nice. Almost unexpectedly so IMO. Its cool to take care of them, within reason. But they're not museum pieces and they never will be; they're mass produced machines designed for us to have fun in. And we're only here for a limited time and we don't know how long that time is.

Drive them. Hard. Often. In the rain. To the store. In some traffic. Do some errands. To the dog park with the top off/down. You can't take it with you and there's no sense denying yourself even one single drive just to "keep it cherry" for someone else.

                      ^^^
Completely agree. It's a Car. A nice car, but still a car. It's not a Picasso, or the Sistine Chapel, or even a Ferrari La Ferrari. It's not irreplaceable, it's a mass produced Chevy. If it someday gets totalled, insurance will pay me and I'll order another one, or maybe something else will catch my eye instead.

I think you are taking my concerns to the extreme. I drive my car, and in a spirited manner, whenever the weather permits. But if I am going to routine errands involving parallel parking on the street, I will take something else.

For example, I am unafraid of my car getting dirty on my unpaved road, and have no problems with a touchless car wash to rinse it clean if I am away from home. Things that make some here recoil in horror.

But no parking on the street in Yonkers.

LOL I agree with that. I've seen parking jobs there and in Astoria with really nice cars. Its standard to use bumper contact as a cue of when to cut the wheels and go the other way 🤣
