  • Wow, two good races this weekend

We get two good races this weekend. Corvettes at Sebring and the start of the F1 season. Hope the Haas team has a good run this year.

Well Mercedes looks good in qualifying, hope it’s not Mercedes domination all season.

First few rows are the usual suspects. New boys did well.

      Good start for LeClerc.

Nice to see Norris and McLaren in 8th.

Feel bad for Williams and their guys.

      Highlights here

P6 and P7 for Haas! Not bad for a "Merican" team!

I HOPE it's a good race in Melbourne. I've been an F1 fan for decades, but the sad truth is that while F1 cars are amazing, and Qualy can be exciting, most of the races turn into parades after the first couple of laps. When you rely on pit stops to change the order of the race you're not doing it right. Hopefully Ferrari's race pace is closer to Mercedes than their qualy pace, and hopefully the new aero changes really do make it easy to follow another car closely.

And yes, there's definitely closer racing in the middle of the field, but you don't see a lot of that on TV, and even there passing has been a challenge.

I've been told Indy car has gotten really interesting, especially on the road course, so I'm going to try watching those races this year, too.

**** shame what has happened to Williams since Claire has taken over. Looks like she needs to step down and let someone more qualified revive the team. Its good to see McLaren doing well though.

Well hope the results don’t preview the season all the way through.

Well, to a large extent another parade. It's sort of ludicrous that for much of the race the cars were driving around the track 8 to 9 seconds slower than their qualifying times! Gotta nurse those tires and fuel! They should let the cars use a much fuel as they want: let each team decide how to balance the extra weight or more fuel vs. higher output vs. engine longevity. And mandate a minimum of two tire changes at tracks that normally require only one, and three changes at tracks that normally require two. Or heck, mandate three at all tracks. That gives the teams less incentive to nurse the tires. We'd see faster laps, and maybe more passing. (Maybe.)

I'm not sure the new aero regs have made much difference in the ability to pass. Watching the Red Bull car on newer tires unable to get around a Toro Rosso on worn ones was frustrating.

There were ALMOST a couple of exciting racing opportunities. If Verstoppen hadn't thrown the car off the track there could have been a good fight for second between he and Hamilton. And watching LeClerc pass Vettel would have been interesting, if the team hadn't (obviously) told him to back off.

Hopefully Ferrari can figure things out and be competitive before too many races go by.
And hopefully Haas can figure out how to install tires!
