  • Help with seat stain

Not too long ago I noticed a stain in my passenger seat. I have no idea what caused it. I imagine it hasn't been there super long as I probably would have noticed it, but it seems to be set in pretty well at this point. I'm looking for suggestions on how to remove it (assuming it is even possible).

I included a couple photos. Based on the edges of the stain, I am guessing it was some type of thicker fluid/material. Perhaps maybe grease or shampoo or something similar. I very rarely have passengers and mainly use that seat to carry things. I run many errands in my C8 including grocery shopping and picking up pizzas. So maybe it is a pizza grease stain? I'm definitely not sure what it is but it is fairly obvious and certainly an eye-sore. It doesn't show up as well in photos as the naked eye but hopefully you can see it well enough.

I have read that baking soda can work to remove grease stains. Anyone have experience trying this? And any reason why it would be a bad idea to try that given I don't know what the stain is?

I have tried a couple standard car leather cleaners and they didn't have any effect whatsoever. I think whatever it is is pretty well set at this point. So I might be out of luck...

But any suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks all and sorry if there is already a thread about this that I missed.

Start with the least abrasive and gradually work up to more abrasive/harsher brush/chemicals. There is a 'finish' on the seats so try not to disturb that if possible.

First thing is to know what the stain is
Grease, Oil, or Ink require different methods
I'd start by taking it to a professional detailer

back in 2019 when the C8 was first shown on tour it appeared that the GT1 Seats were resistant to discoloration and the GT2 Seats with the perforations tended to get dirty. Many people were lined up to sit in the cars and the heavy use showed to my satisfaction the the GT1 Seats should be my choice.

So it will always be GT1 Seats for me. The inferior yet superior seat IMHO.

Could it be a coffee stain?

My GT1 seats have perforations, how are the two seats different in perforations ? Maybe I missed something.

Maybe a proper application of steam and blotting could get this out. Mine were treated at the dealer with Simonizes Glasscoat process, supposedly prevents almost every kind of stain there is, but we'll see. My car stays pretty clean, and I don't have passengers very often, that's an odd place for a stain, must have come from something you carried in the front seat.

ID:	478447 Your're right. But the perforations are smaller than GT2. The seats with larger holes show soiling. The red GT1s in the picture have 36K miles seat time since July 25 2020. Lightly cleaned a few. But the dealer applied a ceramic or whatever at delivery.

The GT2s are real hide and larger perforations. GT1s are reconstituted from pulverized hide. That's what I recall and it has been a while since I fell in love with GT1. Memory fades and shifts.

More important? Liquid can saturate transversely beneath the finish of natural hide? Think so. The stain may include pigment from the natural hide bleeding back through the through the finish from beneath.

The stain is at the perimeter of a rough circle. Like saturation stain. What ever it was had some interaction with the natural hide content.

Coffee and pigments tend to stain everything.

Question? If the stain is from the unfinished side of the hide and discoloring the finish what is good? Try to remove the stain from the finish. Or recolor the finished surface portion of the hide. Does GM have a kit for that.

I'm not a chemist. Just trying to help sort it out.

google seta doctors, they have a dye that will cover that up and they have every color for all corvette interiors, you can order using your VIN number, I have used it and works great
