  • Bird

Yesterday at the golf course, a bird dive-bombed my car and it was on there in the sun for a couple of hours at least. I tried all the wax, cleaners, scratch removers etc. that I have, but the ring residue is still on there. Curious if anyone has had any success with something like this. It's on the XPEL.

    Thanks.

We are sorry to hear that. If not one has posted below a suggestion that works, I would call XPEL and ask to speak with their technical experts on Monday. In the interim, if mine I would not put it back into the sun before then.

Try lightly clay barring it out

The process is the same as with regular paint: wet the surface with a lubricant such as XPEL Detail Spray or soapy water and then gently rub the surface with the clay bar. For stubborn insect, bird dropping, or hard water stains, use an all-purpose degreaser such as Simple Green as the lubricant for the detailing clay. Info from the XPEL innerwebs. Some additional information that may indicate the overall health of your feathered friend.

It would really surprise me if a clay bar would work for a "burn" in the PPF material caused by bird droppings which can be highly acidic and baked in by the sun. It's not like paint which can be corrected by polishing it out by removing the top layer of paint, which is burned.

Stubborn bug and bird residue, yes, but not a chemical burn. I usually have bottle of water in the vehicle I'm driving and a microfiber towel to get bird dropping off as quickly as possible.

I tried the rubbing alcohol followed by wax and then scratch remover....had little effect. As posted above, I think the couple of hours it was on there in the sun while I was still on the golf course pretty much baked it in to the XPEL.

Sorry about that. Not all bird droppings are acidic enough to do that kind of damage. Sounds like you just got unlucky with a bird which had an acidic meal, and the sun did the rest of the work. The acid ate into the XPEL.

Happens around here with Seagulls. I had a large hard dried dump on my C8 one time. I put water on it and then a soaked paper towel for about a half hour. That softened it up so I could wipe it off with microfiber without scratching the paint. Then I waxed the area with regular Mothers polish. Got it all. No marks or stains. No PPF on car.

Sorry that did not work. As Foosh noted, probably acid in the poo.

Hopefully the XPEL Technical line people have a solution and please post what they say here so others can learn too. Fingers crossed for you.

I always caring a bunch of microfibers and detailer with me so that if I notice droppings by being around/in the vehicle as it is happening, or soonest thereafter, I immediately attack. Even have a pile of MF’s and detailer in our daily driver for the same reason .
