Seems like all the steering wheels on the new C8...... EXCEPT if you have a Sky Gray interior, have the centering stripe on the wheel. Every other color combo I saw had a colored stripe.

I asked the GM Rep when I saw, and sat in the car in Hazelton, PA several weeks ago about WHY only the gray interior didn't get the steering wheel stripe, but he had no idea.
3LT Coupe, Z51 Torch Red with two toned Red/black interior. 5VM visible CF ground effects, Carbon Flash wheels, engine appearance package and Carbon Fiber interior trim. Mag Ride control. Red Calipers. VQK Splash Guards. Carbon fiber: Steering wheel, mirrors, High Wing, Door handles & boomerangs; Rear Diffuser with vertical diffuser fins; A Pillar; B Pillar; Rear Hatch Side Vents, as well as top camera surround piece and lower under glass piece; Engine bay surround pieces; and front grill trim.

Yes, but it looks like you can only get the stitching with the 3LT trim.

Hi Strake, did they specify if you need the 3LT trim to get a colored centering stripe? The configurator only ever shows color on the stripe if i select a a colored interior. Seems like if you went 1LT or 2LT, you can use the above tape as a mod to achieve the same effect lol.

Humm............ I just went off and tried the configurator and put in a 2 LT trim, with red interior and it showed the steering wheel with the red stripe and red stitching.....

Also, the 3LT tour car ( orange with light gray interior) had NO stripe on the wheel. I also tried several other combos on the configurator with the gray interior, and none had the stripe.

I'm doing a 3LT anyways, but thought I would add what we saw in person.

Could have been a pre-production model, e.g., that they had yet to approve the supplier’s steering wheel in that color.

Re the earlier statement, I do not believe that 1LT steering wheels have that center top stripe. Can anyone please confirm or correct me?

FWIW, the visualizer shows a red band with the red LT1 interior. But whether the visualizer is accurate....... I think black, red and gray are the only color options for 1LT.

When I am turning a a series of sharp, reverse corners, nice at times to have a visual marker available in the corner of my eye should I want.

First used on circle track cars. In steady radius corners, the driver could note the turning angle of the steering wheel. By noting the position of the strip. He can use that to help tune the car. If the car had a lot of understeer, the stripe or turning angle of the wheel would be more for the same corner. If the car had oversteer, the wheel would be turned less and the stripe located higher. This is for constant radius corners . It is very old school, not used now with all the data AQU we have now, but in the old days it was another tuning trick to use. Kinda dumb and unless now, if I had an opinion.

Seems you could also just note the position of the wheel. I would hate to explain now days. Just what is the red band on the steering for?
