  • C7.Rs smacked with 10Kg of BoP Adjustment @ CMTP

    sick of this.

It’s a short turnaround week for Corvette Racing and the Corvette C7.Rs as they head north of the border for the Mobil 1 Sports Car Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park after finishing P2 at Watkins Glen last Sunday.

And just because it’s the 4th of July weekend, don’t think for a moment that members of IMSA’s competition committee took the week off. Race organizers have issued a new Balance of Performance memo that directly, and exclusively, targets the Corvette C7.Rs.

The CTMP BoP Bulletin shows the Corvettes will have an additional 10kg (22 lbs) of weight added, bringing them up to 1250kg in total dry weight.

No other teams in GTLM had changes made to their BoP tables.

How many times have we seen that happen in recent years. IMSA has intentionally targeted team Corvette over and over again when it wasnt warranted or justifiable. There seems to be a set of rules for team Corvette and then the rest of the field especially if you are Ford or BMW. Getting really tired of it.

With all due respect to forum members, I’ll say it again, Racing sanctioning bodies are in business to make money. The largest checkbook that is open to them gets to influence the rules.
I have lived this first hand. It’s still racing but the favored team gets a better “deal” which puts it in a better position to win .
Welcome to pro racing. Money talks.

No disrespect to any one, but that is the way it works.
In the past we have spent many dollars to gain a competitive advantage, believe us when we say, go too fast and some body will protest.
Racing today is a show, entertainment. And a money making machine for the sanctioning bodies. Nothing more.

Racing makes all brands stronger. Sometimes you are the bug and sometimes you are the windshield. However, that Porsche did not get a BoP “negative” of some sort at this time is not just.

A little racing history, when Porsche decided it wanted to win the CAN AM series, it produced a car that was unbeatable. It dominated qualifying lap times, pole positions, course records, and race wins. What that did was kill the series. No one else had the money to try to beat the Porsche factory cars. Spectators quit coming because they knew who was going to win. Small car owners packed up and went home.
Point of this is,,,,, if IMSA turned the Corvette loose, it would dominate in the same way. Thus like other series we have the BOP. Or spec cars.
